Saharsa Flood Relief Work : A sign of unity of India:

Saharsa Flood Relief Work : A sign of unity of India:
Learn to live with floods than trying to control that by bandhs.
-Dr. Dhanakar Thakur
dhanakarthakur@rediffmail.com

I wanted to go to serve Koshi flood victims and had applied for leaves and when Mrs. Punita Rai of Jindal requested me to join Jindal Steel’s team going to Saharsa I happily joined

I was introduced to team members at Ramgarh lead by Debashish Banerjee who became close to me in many ways by the time I returned.

There were other eight members in the ambulance loaded with drugs worth Rs. one lkh purchased as per my advices and everyone had a service mentality.

We stayed at night at Begusarai in a hotel which was hot and humid. Other doctor, young Dr. Arun Kr. Singh could not sleep and at 330 am he took batch and I too became ready by 6 am. I had not taken food at night as it was a non-vegetarian hotel and took some bananas in the morning.

We went to Mrs. Rai’s brother, Dr. Sandeep Pandey’s house who had a good nursing home. We had a good breakfast there. I asked him to pack few rotis for me which he did with a lot of sweets.

When we moved on Scorpio from Khagaria towards Mansi in way to Saharsa, we saw many lorries carrying various banners of organizations returning from flooded area.
The first we saw of UNICEF and then of some Kisan and Shikshak (Farmers and Teachers) Associations. We saw many lorries returning after unloading materials which had small stickers India-Nepal with the name of some organization which might have sent matter for twin countries.

From Mansi on Saharsa route there was flood water on right hand side all along. People were on machans on the road and at several places we saw good number of people some places only ladies in coloured sarees hoping for some relief from somewhere.

There were few camps and medical centres of some organizations. Of course, it was the lowest reach of Koshi coming from the Himalays and after some kilometer those water were destined to meet mighty Ganga nobody after that can discern as if the drop was from Yamuna or Gandak or many rivers which are tributaries of Ganga though in themselves many of them are as ferocious and mighty.

It is said that if any one finds a drop of Ganga he/she becomes pure and gets salvation. The Koshi too must have been so though she might have made havoc to many millions of lives but whose fault was that whether of Koshi or of those who tried to tame it by long barrages which were never maintained though were a source of corruption.

I am of the opinion like many environmentalists that not only Koshi but all rivers should be freed from bandhs and people should learn to live with small flood water rather face a death warrant whenever there is a breach in the embankments.

For Debashis and Mrs. Punita Rai probably water at the lowest reach too, near Mansi, in the vicinity of Beldaur, Saur Bazar and Sonebarsa was more and they took a lot of snaps. Maybe with lessened force in that downstream amount of water was sufficient to draw attention.

We were exclaimed to see at a place where a person sitting on boat was trying to bring his ox to safer place, ox was also swimming and hence, the water must be more than a meter, ox’s only nose portion was above water and the man was holding the rope of its neck. Every creature wants life and that was the most glaring example.

We saw many ambulances of Gujarat Govt. and in fact in all of our journey those were moving every nook and corner. It was commented in local newspapers one should learn disaster management from Gujarat and I recalled one of the session held on this subject at NMO’s National conference at Rajkot (23-24 February 2002). Pramukhswami Maharaj’s lorries were returning after unloading relief material. He is a grand saint of Gujarat and I had visited a medical college named after him at Karmsad, near Anand in Gujarat, the birthplace of Sardar Patel. Asharam Bapu’s several centres were in the way.

The Saur Bazar area of Saharsa is famous for pedas and in fact it could have been other Anand, if some one like Cherian would have laboured hard for bringing ‘White Revolution.’ The dairy movement has been successful even in vandalized Bihar of Lalu regime. Sudha milk parlors were successful. Mithila needs such small and medium sized agro-related cooperative/ consumers movement.

I saw Kisan Vikas Trust had opened a Khichari centre there on the way. At a place I read a banner, ”Asha Barh Rahat Kendra,” certainly marooned people can have hope t save lives from such who had come to show them a ray of life!
I read on the back foot of a lorry,

“Tata nikali, Patna me barhi,
Main Kitni abhagin Driver se pyar hua.”

At a place I found some young man stealing water pouch filled sacks from the slow moving lorry jumping in the truck on the back..
“Pani me fansa, Pani ki chori karte.”
Flooded staling water!
Debashish had strong objection on my word ‘stealing.’

Yes, it may seem a right work for any generous person like him as even Gandhi had said “hunger’s God is food.”

True, they had jumped to truck to get some food grain or other matter but were satisfied even with water pouches.

“Water water everywhere not a drop to drink,” I recalled.

We were eating bhuja which Punita Rai had purchased from some Big Bazar of Ranchi or Ramgarh and we can have comments only on such persons in peril but surely if trucks were not allowed to carry relief materials to the interiors up many more needy would have suffered.

There were huts on the waysides- chaukis and on the other side of road were cattle roped to nails.
A lorry from Seva Dal, Dehri and other of Unicef passed.
When we reached Saharsa’s Koshi Vihar we all had lunch but I pressed that some work must be done and everyone was willing to work and we were taken to the outskirt of the town, Baijnathpur, where daily Jagaran had been running a camp.

Though state Govt. doctors were posted there all persons tilted to our camp in hope of some good medicines.
I found a case of kalazar and referred to Dr. Swatantra Kumar Singh for free treatment and likewise I found other case of VSD which I asked to contact me further for referring to the Satya sai Institute of Higher Medical Scinences, Puttupurthy but who cares for whom?

On 12th September I saw camps of Bharat Sewashram Sangh.

At Saharasa, I was told by Prof. Vinay Choudhary that ahead of Silet village a lorry full of relief material was looted showing revolver though that was not the affected area and on the reference of a local MLA some persons have convinced the outside NGO that they will guide them to devastated area.

Prof. Vinay said that Nonaity, Buary, Badgaon, Basnahi villages were greatly affected where he had guided to Bharat Sevashram Sangh persons going on boats, distributing materials to many who for the sake of their honour would not had liked to go to relief camps nor they could decide to leave their homes as hooligans were looting house holds and at places some such had outraged the modesty of even some women!

At Nonaity some 500 men were stranded on one high place. Mid day school meals grain were life savers!

At Badgaon half village men consisting of wealthier people stayed in a school. For 19 days Bechan Mishra provided money for food for all assembled there. Boats carrying 100 quintals food materials had stations on such villages where they used to sell materials brought from Sonebarsa on some higher prices which was genuine. So ‘Boat Shopping,” was a new phenomenon in flood.

Such was the pathetic condition at Behta, Sahsaul, Duari, Gwalpara etc.

It is not all politicians were making image as well as looting the part of materials sent from different corners of the country.

Neeraj ‘Bablu,’ MLA of Raghopur from village Gobindpur,Madhubani near Pratapganj rescued one person who was hanging from electric wire(which had no current due to line disruption)..Neeraj took a steamer-boat with two persons and sailed himself to that place and asking others to control the boat, he pulled up the person from the wire and saved him!

But I found relief work was disturbed from the visits of ministers and leaders who hardly visit to interiors where relief had not reached but concentrated to districts where officers were centred to them diverted from real work and show was put.

When for such a show before CM, Bihar, Neetish Kumar, Jindal team was asked on 13th September to go to Singheshhwar Sthan, I declined and protested sharply. The previous night we had decided to got to Supaul’s RD 22 , away from Balua which had been devastated completely where worst suffering. Some 15,000 persons were awaiting relief though Praksh Jha, cine director’s team was working.

(Later I read on 23rd September 2008 that a doctor from Maharsahtra Dr. Chandrakant Patil succumbed to lightening stroke where he was working with his five friends. He was the only son of his parents. He was a student of MD (PSM) in the PSM dept. in a medical college at Mumbai. His team had decided to continue to work despite his death. Rightly the Prabhat Khabar has written where is anti-Bihari feeling at a time when Govt. doctors had left and I saw their suspension notice in newspaper though I felt and protested that move of the Govt.

After all without any minimal comfort any doctor on duty cannot be asked to work- all the hotels and Govt. guest houses were taken up by leaders and NGOs officials. Even thrice CM Jagannath Mishra cold not get a room in Govt. Koshi Vihar.Circit house and I fond on my arrival thee that Koshi Vihar was occupied by constables of the security guards of the CM, Neetish Kumar..I confused one Nepali in BMP for any Uttarakhandi there.

At Saharsa, Jindal team could get a dormitory but we doctors had to stay outside on our room as they could not get a room in hotel. Mrs. Rai too had to stay at the uncle of a Jindal worker, Amit’s house. Amit’s uncle Manan Thakur, an advocate and journalist was all along with us to guide.

When Manan Thakur convinced me that the way to RD 22 was via Singheshwar, I agreed for an hours camp thee where I had thought to protest before Neetish that he should stop his visit as a gesture to others so that work my be smooth.

I had also told to Mrs. Rai that I would write to Shri Naveen Jindal against the director of Jindal, Brigadier Chopra for his undue favour to officials on CM’s visit, particularly when Naveen Jindal belonged to the Congress and CM from NDA (in way Mrs Rai was taunting me that it was the team of UPA/Congress on which I had said that I came with them only thinking as a Steel house and Indian Industry which had donated Rs. one crore to my area of Mithila for which they deserve appreciation. They may also provide scholarships to some 10,000 students who may face educational deprivation after flood water recedes.

Jindal has announced to rebuilt two villages. Good that is but I appeal (and will personally meet Naveen Jindal, a rising industrial diamond on global scale) that he should rather start a power plant in the Mithila area devastated by Koshi and make some secondary steel plants. It will regenerate Koshi economy.

We do not want begging bowls just support and even politically Mithila has highest number of political seats in parliament to make one a dynamic leader nationally.

Meeta Ambani had given a cheque of Rs. 10 crore coming to Patna but Jindal sent his team to supervise work which was great.

Rajiv Gandhi had said 15 paise reaches of a rupee to final place but I say that was an all India average- in Bihar even five paise one can imagine- despite Neetish’s so called good governance.

We had gone to Jirba bandh via Madhepura on 13th September. Madhepura was worst affected district headquarter and the water was still there in low lands. There were many camps run by Lalu Yadav and Rambilas Paswan’s ministries- at least there were many banners as if in electoral competition there also.

I saw the Rail Factory’s premises and Collector ate and also a board of Madhepura Medical College on the way going to the Sadar Hospital there.

We proceeded on a way which had Dr. Arun’s house still encircled with flood water. He had come a week before and had taken away his parents to Ranchi.

There was a bridge just on the outskirt of town where water was still touching the bridge which our vehicles could pass with the help of traffic police blocking the traffic on other ends.

The road said to lead to Bihpur was in dilapidated state and in return journey I was exclaimed to read on a mile stone that it was NH 107 which was said to be built by British was flooded was other matter but I could never imagine that such not concreted road could be a NH!

At Jirba bandh the condition was pathetic yet I was surprised to see first banner written in Oriya of Niranjan Mission near the Shiva temple.

The Army personnel had camp there and in fact due to them the 407 passengers were not charged more than usual.

Army’s Medical Core had a camp there with boats and t was the last point one can go by road. Army had a medical post too but because we had plenty of medicine soon people took the form of an unprecedented rush. Prescribing in less than a minute a person became ordeal for us.

At Jirba Dr.Arun Kr. Singh(Left) and Dr. Dhanakar Thakur(Right) prescribing medicines to flood victims.Back standing Mrs. Punita Rai

We saw more than 500 patients. Brigadier Chopra congratulated us for our humanly work on which I replied in fact he deserved raise as service was doctors’ inherent duty but they non-medical persons came earlier than us to serve.

Though my company. MECON’s team had visited there only two days before but there was huge rush for medicine- which people took even when it started raining and we took seats in the Scorpio. The people who were routed by flood water were facing again Indra’s wrath- rains!

At that camp I saw a child named Neetish-later I met two other children named Neetish. Certainly CM had been popular but the onus of Kushna breach people say lies on him and I was told by some person that the relief work was a test for him and one experienced told that he would loose due to Koshi calamity in the area which had a clean sweep for NDA in last Assembly Poll.

There was a marasmic child and so other were some who needed hospitalization- I gave Rs.10, Rs.20 and going near to Ambulance Rs.50 to that marasmic child’s mother. I had not much money and while coming my sister had told me that her husband Vivekanand had said that 500 Rs. should be given in the hands of flood victims which I had not taken seriously while coming and had taken only 700 Rs. with me. Not only next day at Supaul I gave one poor Rs.20 again, to Prof. Vinay Choudhary I gave Rs.300 to give it to the RSS camp. I might have differences with them on some points but still they are the best in the matter of honesty to deliver things to proper persons at least in such calamities. Even Dr. Jagannath Mishra had visited RSS camp in the place where once we had Manthan meeting for the Mithila Rajya.

We retuned via Pastpar village was there where I was exclaimed to read the board of a residential school. The light of education is spreading albeit slowly in the remote areas too. Village Gorpa was said to be only 7 km from there from where belonged RMC medico Dr. Indu’s wife who were very devopted to me whom I had seen many years back at Katihar.

While returning I reported to the correspondent of the Aaj at Ranchi(though it was not published) an eye-witness’s account. I also tried to contact the Ranchi Express but Chandreshwarji’s person did not contact me further.

We were at Karpoori Chowk for a while and returning through the town I guessed the rush before a SBI ATM at 4 pm must be for the withdrawals of money sent by relatives far distant. Mithila even otherwise runs on money order economy and surely with ATMs and core banking money will flow to Mithila as Maithils have yet to a great extent live relations with their home and relatives.

On Main Road Madhepura, I noticed Purnea Gola and Lorik stores while Purnea was nearby district frm where some one must be at Madhepura in business in that place Lorik was a yadav King of Mithila and it is said,
“Rome hai Pope ka to Madhepura hai gope ka”

Yadavs predominate Madhepura and so Yadavs from Jablapur and Chapra came to have electoral wrestling there though it has great son of soil BP Mandal of famous Mandal Commission.

Till such outsiders vested interest will come to Mithila it will not prosper be it Madhepura or Madhubani they will not serve the cause of Yadavs or of Brahmins.

The rivalry of Yadav -Brahmin must end for any progress of Mithila. The union of intellect and valor can change Mithila.

Maybe I have one Vivekanand (doctor) or AMP has one Gurumaita today but I vision soon people will realize the truth of friendship and mutual trust and support.

After We had gone to Singheshwar- the place of Shringi Risi who was son of Shamik rishi whom Emperor Parikshit (grandson of Arjuna- sone of Abhimnay-Uttara- had put a dead snake when he was not offered water or asked to seat. Rishi Sami’s son Shringi had cursed Parikht that he would be bitten o death by Takshaka in seven days(and in those days Shrimad Bhagawada was spoken to him as a penance by Shuk Muni)..

I was on Pradosh fast that day and it was coincident that I could have darsan of Singheshwar in that Pradosh with Dr.Arun who se brother was working at Singheshwar and Mrs. Ray and Manan Thakur.
In way to Singheshwar BN Mandal University New campus was turned into a watery lagoon.

While going to Singheshwar, I had seen lorries of Bhasin Jomewala of Pune, Sarvodaya, Vadodara, a vehicle of MECON Ltd., Ranchi and also a truck of Panchgachhia Dyodhi near Saharsa. In fact I had seen many banners of local ward committees of Saharsa and they localities were the first to provide relief before any organisation came from distant area and states.

There was a banner of Gramin Chikitsak Sangh, Saharsa and at Madhepura I saw two ambulances of the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi as well as from the Dept. of Social Welfare, Delhi University.

At Singheshwar I saw a truck load of relief material came from the Marwadi relief Society, Jamshedpur.

Singheshwar town had water but had receded and we were told by priest that there were some doctors came from Jharkhand and therefore I was more disinclined to go there again and was in favour of visiting RD 22 where seeing the pathetic condition Dr. Jagannath Mishra had in the same evening announced renunciation from parliamentary politics.

Brigadier Chopra in the middle of Dr.Arun Kr. Singh (Left) and Dr. Dhanakar Thaku(Right), Members of team standing behind.

Brigadier Chopra had otherwise worked marvelous in distributing relief materials and rescuing many- Jindal’s name and vehicles were a known name in Saharsa division
Luckily the DM allotted a negligible place at Singheshwar and I pressed the team to go to Supaul where in the BSR College we had patients many- some 500 or more. Even Gujarati doctor on an ambulance distributed medicines there.
While returning in a lighter vein, on the name of Chopra I said a joke where some student said to his teacher Chopra as Kopada when the boy was asked to read as Kemistry for the Chemistry. We had an enjoying time. I said about a story in which ,Shake the bolltle before use,” was interpreted by someone as to heat (from Maithili’s seknai) well.
I also said that in English Ram for Lord will be meant for an animal giving wool like Mango at Jamshedpur will be interpreted for a locality where bus stand was situated.

Mananji while returning from Supaul narrated an instance a non-Maithil person(a Bengali) enumerator of the electoral roll had written as Headman as the title of Mukhiya of many persons of a village as the village Mukhiya he interpreted as the Headman like that of Bengal.

On 14th September the last day I did not say anything for the place initially as I had limited time there and the team was in packing move. I was informed that they were going to Mushharnia/ Barhkhurwa Ghat camp for which we crossed via Pipra where I gave a statement to the correspondent of Hindustan that leaders be prevented entering flooded area as they stall the progress of relief work. They should be prevented like some leaders on instance of inciting communal violence. The situation was grimmer than any violence.

The correspondent, a young boy asked me whether I was sure at the statement as it was a hard one. I affirmed that it should go by my personal name as spokesman of the Antarrashtriya Maithili Parishad not by the name of the Jindal which team I was accompanying.
Mananji informed me on my return to Ranchi that that statement had appeared in the press.
We crossed through Pipra bazaar where khaza was purchased which though delicious I took only two being calorie as well as stomach trouble conscious.

We crossed through Tribeniniganj and we reached to Bhutahi/Barahkhurwa bandh where were around a thousand families taken shelter on bundh. Those coming from boat from flooded zone were given a packet of materials containing few kg of chura, etc. I had tears and still my eyes are tearful to enter the data on the pathetic condition of the thousands of people of my area, not many kilometer was Pratapganj, Chhatapur, after which was Forbesganj where I was born.
There were families who have lost some member there. One such family who had lost earning father was photographed by Mrs. Roy . She asked someone to bring biscuits from Tribeniganj which was distributed among children who became very happy to get that though I was busy in

seeing patients; one among them was a very old mother whom I I gave full Taxim injections for four next days, after injecting one to her.

The Army personnels were well supervising there having control of all affairs. There was also a medical camp of the State Govt. Soon we had a rush to dispense medicine and there after some saree (new) started distributed there where people thronged. Though we saw many hundreds there people started coming repeating and also I had an earnest desire to see RD 22 where I was informed that some 10-15 thousand persons were stranded. Had bandh broken there entire Saharsa would have been gulped by flood water.

Unprecedented, I asked all to pack up and start for RD 22. We reached Pipra again, we had a standing lunch on road well covered by high trees. It was a sporting lunch in fact. RD 22 was some 40 km from there but Mrs. Roy said that returning Saharsa by 7 pm was essential and so we should rather have a camp in nearby school.
Ladies have some problems in such a team and I had to accept the will as after all it was not my NMO/AMP team.

We went to the Satyadeb High school where already Dr. Vijay Kumar, MBBS from LLRM, Meerut and a resident of Chapra was well serving the people. He was poste at Chapra.

Soon there was a rush as before to get medicines which was distributed most as that was the last camp for us. Dr. Vijay asked me to donate medicines but I said him that I was not the in-charge of that.(However, Jindal team donated rest medicines and truckload of materials to Ramdev Baba’s team at Saharsa that night. I was said by someone that the MECON team brought back some drugs as they did not have authority to donate. This is difference between private and Government sector and their mentality on which it primarily depends.)

We reached in the evening Saharsa. At Gangjala Chowk there was a big jam by flood regugees who were sore at mismanagement in Mega camps . CM Neetish was in the town and it was in protest of him. Flood politics will go long as elections are near.

I asked Dr. L.N. Jha to accompany me to late R.N. Jha’s house whse daughter in law , Prabha , is working for the www.Miththilaart and had been an stimulator to me for quick progress of Maithili Geeta but he could not find time nor I could go being tired and exhausted. I phoned Dr, Swatantra Kumar Singh but he also was not at home nor he did come on message. I tried to contact Dr. Prabhash Singh who was a senior to me at the DMCH and was involved in JP agitation- we both were caught a midnight out of Darbhanga station when we were writing slogans on wall in favour of Janta Party but despite many calls wait his number was not provided by his house.
I talked to Vivekanand Jha who was with us at the BSR College, Supaul camp and was busy in distributing medicines there as a Karmyogi. I requested him to join the AMP which he accepted and consulting Dr. L.N. Jha I announced his name as the Organising Secretary, AMP, Saharsa.

I had a long talk with Dr. L, N. Jha on many things . I told him that whether working for life long for RSS had I choose a path which was not much rewarding to persons of my area of Koshi-Kamla? I had even declined a marriage proposal of the granddaughter of LN Mishra (daughter of Gauri shankar Rajhans) in 1985.

We talked about Mishra brothers on the backdrop of Dr. Jagannath Mishra’s renunciation of parliamentary politics. Though I have strong reservation on his choosing Urdu as second Language of Bihar in place of Maithili, I had four meetings with him which had been very cordial. Once he also came to my Ranchi quarters to deliver certificates to the participants of Maithili Training Camp.
LN Jha is only six months junior to him and he narrated me how Lalit babu differed from him. Once a Yadv young man approached Jagannath Mishra for some canal to his village which he refused angrily.

Lait babu was there in the home and when he met him he asked Yadav about his old father. Knowing that he was ill he said that he would have a tea with him next morning. And he phoned the concerned engineer to come there by the morning on tea where that work was accepted to be done immediately.

LN Jha had narration of the story that how Saharsa was made a postal division by the then Communication Minister of India, Ram Subhag Singh was an eye opener for any social worker.

When LN Jha told LN Mishra vote face that till he was in Saharsa it was a postal division only. Lalit babu was dumbfounded on it. Someone came to LN Jha’s house and informed that Lalit Babu was shocked over some of his utterance. LN Jha went to apologize.

Lalit Babu asked Secretary of postal Union, LN Jha to accompany him to Patna but LN Jha reached next day morning there taking his leave. At 5 am he asked for LN Jha and took tea with him. After 8 am, he took him to Ram Subhag Singh who phoned Minister of State Prof. Sher Singh. He said that it had no justification. Dumka was created because that was hilly region. On which LN Jha quipped .”one can walk on hills but walking on Koshi sand was impossible and Saharsa had more number of employees than Dumka.”
Ram Subhag Singh asked LN Jha to meet him at Delhi. Again Lalit Babu asked him to accompany but he said that for Union work he will go with President and going to Saharsa along with President and others he reached Delhi and there Division was created which was later inaugurated by Lalit Babu.

I talked Prof. Lalpari devi and Prof. Vinay Chudhary who came to see me next morning.

Knowing that we are to start early 630 am was fixed time and I was ready befre she came in time. Soon Vinayji came and we had organizational meeting on the backdrop of work on Koshi floods.

Vinayji said that officers were indulged in looting. In Saharsa sweets were in scarcity as everyone orders for Kaju-barfi!

Mrs. Roy came a bit late and I accompanied them on Scorpio.
While we were returning many more were going to serve.
I saw a truck had a banner, “Maithili GoShthi”, the place I could not read.
There were vechiles/trucks from Pukar/ Rahat, News 24 hours, Sant Rihani, Haryana, BCCL, Barera, Khelari, Channel 4.

The water was receding and people were less in the road side machans than we had seen few days back.
Debu told me that the previous in way to Pipra while singing song from mobile, our ambulance had a close shave! He also told me that he got a youngest friend in me and whether he remained in Jindal or not would come as a rehabilitation worker and would like me to serve there in a Koshi clinic which I promise to to the extent possible from me.

There were trucks of Sudesh Foundation, Jharia, Umrao, Rajasthan, Binod Sharma, Ambala, Bihar Voluntary Health Association, Voluntary Health Association of India, truckload from Cipla Pharma(I thought must be of drugs needed so badly there- Dnesh Mishra had phoned me to arrange drugs for Purnea camp), of Patna Goalf Club, from Nagarpada, Bhagalpur, and not from where –there was from DAV Schools; I saw three trucks District Administration, Bhivani (Haryana).; I saw the trucks from Kota Rajasthan, Plan International, Helpage India, Bihar Group, Vidisha(M.P.) .

Yes, these are some which I could note while I was in the way - note that such flow of material was round the clock for many days and weeks continuously. On 21st September, truck of CNN-IBN brought matters from Hyderabad,AMP; Delhi, AMP is yet to send.
Last night Dr. Vijayendra, NMO, Kashi said that he worked in Supaul with 12 medicos team; Dr. Pratap had worked at Banamankhi. Vijayendra or Kripanand had banners of NMO-AMP- I did not have though I had taken one, I felt not to add one more among numerous . DR. Vivekanand, National Jt. Secreatry, NMO told m that he was passing through zero miles, Maheshkhunt (when we were returning to Ranchi) in way to Beldaur area where he was running medical camps.

Banners have value but persons have more and their hearts and souls if you can unite them with the victims who are our own kith and kin.

I saw country was united on Koshi calamity though I did not see trucks from South, maybe from distance but even if Bihari-baiter Bombay could send relief material whether it was not a sign of unity of India1

I saw a vast difference from the days of 1977. 1984 or 1987 whether from Andhra cyclone to Koshi Floods. True, this flood was unprecedented but truer the help from countrymen was equally unprecedented!

On 14th night, Dinesh Kumar Mishra had sent a message to watch his episode on NDTV which due to Delhi blasts was postponed and I saw it at Ranchi. Rightly this Kushha breach was the eighth breach on Koshi- seven times in India and first in Nepal which submerged Nepal’s 35,000 population too of 4 Panchayats.
In 1963, Bhimnagar barrage was made.
5th to 8th August twice breach was broken- 900 villages flooded, 2 millions affected.
CM, Bihar had visited Birpur on 26th July and had asked for repair in November when every time breach happens in July/August? Who is responsible?
Forests in Nepal were ordered to cut after breach?
They want a new channel of Koshi which has never been in the world anytime.
The Koshi had silt- big mounds- its sands are increasing 5” high per year and who can do cleaning of sand for 100km which will amount to 6 million squire meter, needing 37,000 trucks which will be 261 km chain?

Whether whole country will do de-silting ?

Way is break the bundhs.

All central Planning Offices are den of corruption.

Medha Patkar may become of Narmada but who will evolve Koshi?

1-2 feet of water will come every year if bundh is broken but devastation will not occur.
1-3
How we can make people conscious when in 5 million Koshi people hardly 2 lakh read newspapers!

An area where a child is swimmer ,people are drowning?

Nowhere in the world bundhs could have been unbreakable- breaking of embankments is as true as that of the mortality of a man!

For 20 lakh population 3 helicopters and 106 boats ??

Army reached after 10 days !

Assam too had 21 lakh affected in floods but no media hype?

Learn to live with flood than trying to control that by bandhs.

.

When we crossed the Rajendra bridge on Mother Ganga at Mokama, it was a pleasant weather and I had a photograph with Debashish.

The net many times hinders the normal writing flow and writing commitments have backlog. I did mot write/ blog for good many days as I had gone to serve Koshi Foood victims and then was busy in finalizing matter for the Aayurvigyan Pragati and Maithili Sandesh which could not have issues for long. I was awoke till 4 am on 26.9.08 and again I was awoke till 3 am on 30.9.08 to read the proofs and now I wish to conclude the article without waiting any further comments of Debashis.

On one of my last blog the Maithili activist Gajendra Thakur comments
“The rehabilitation has started and as we go by the words of Nitishji every single person will be given home, and the rehabilitation work will be remembered by the posterity, like roads Nitish can do this, is my personal hope and belief.”
I wish he is correct but that is like a dream only and there is no harm in dreaming.
The relief materials can be go to wrong hands has been already seen and MLAs or their agents have been quoted to be a party of that. The relief material from the AMP, Hyderabad when reached Saharsa, somehow it reached to an MLAs hands and he asked AMP workers to have a photo with the material at Saharsa College itself but they insisted that they wanted photos while being distributed to real needy.

17th September Vishwakarma Puja and Astrology

17.9.8
17th September Vishwakarma Puja and Astrology

17th September is a Sankranti Day and Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated today.
Mrs.Asha Pandey called me from Bangalore and I recalled the Puja there and sweet packets. She had called for hints on Hindi Essay Competitions on the occasion of Rajbhasha Fortnight.
Probably, there was a bomb hoax in local DAV School and boys got a leave and the must have enjoyed the Vishwakarma sweets.
My Health Centre landline had a problem but mechanics told that on Vishwakarma day they would not touch any instrument. Kayasthas do not touch pen on Chitragupta day. If a doctor say so on Doctors’ day many may loose life! And there are at least tow doctors’ day- one propagated by me through the NMO (Dhanwantari day- two days before Deepawali and the other on 1st July- the birth and death day of Dr. B.C.Roy, the first CM of WB). At least he had spared people fo observing two days.

The day mania is endless. I too wanted to die on my birthday 1st August but recently I could know that it is in Dakshinayan and so to get Moksha I must die before 14th June in any year. My horoscope says I would leave 14 days more after 78 years- seems I would not only try to die 14 days before but 2 months before!

Anyway, the World did not end on 10th September as predicted by many..but for many who were drowned in Koshi Floods despite having bright horoscope opresdictions.
But every time it is not true- at least Bhuj earthquake was forecasted by Thakurdas calendar ( Gujarat/Surastra nash in January) was printed in a calendar I purchased in December!

Astrology is not a science like astronomy many say but the ‘living Newton’, Stephen Hawking author of “A Brief History of Time,” has not replied this question at the Siri Fort Auditorium when his live televised lecture I saw some years back.

Koshi floods the birth of CALAMITY MEDICINE/ DISASTER MEDICINE

17.9.2008
Koshi floods the birth of CALAMITY MEDICINE/ DISASTER MEDICINE
I am just returned from Koshi flood relief work where I had worked in 1984(and had written an editorial in Aayurvigyan Pragati , CALAMITY MEDICINE then almost unknown which the world now knows as DISASTER MEDICINE.

The Govt. of Gujarat had sent many ambulances and they had appreciation from local people.

Once a doctor there dispensed for long my prescriptions( my coworker told me later- I was busy there maybe 1 minute/patient).. 3 million people are affected seriously- over 2 lakh houses (huts) gulped by flood in only one district of Supaul.

I had never worked less than a national scale(the idea of a national organisation of medicos on 8.8.1977, founding it on 5.11.1977 by collecting medicos from hut to hut in ABVP Conference and collecting money and even going there to work in Andhra Cyclone struck on 19.11.1977) though many think my work regional when I talk of my mother tongue Maithili and ask for a linguistic state, Mithila.

I ask that because Mithila is the seat-anchor of Hindu culture but the poorest part of Hindustan. The area of Varah - Prahlad(I knew that at Bharatmata mandir, Pobandar that Prahlad was born in Purnea the area devastated)-Janak-Jaanki- Yajnavalkya-Maitrayee-Gargi-Gautam-Ahlya-Ashtavakra- Kapil-Jaimini- Vachaspati- Bhamati-Mandan-Bharati) is having the lowest per capita income in the country.

And it has been marginalized again by Koshi, the sister of my ancestor Kaushik, the Vishwamitra.

I know I could not organise much and I had to take help of a corporate house (Jindal)which had earmarked Rs.10 million for this flood relief. Purchased as per my suggestions, around one lakh rupees drugs were prescribed by me (and a young house surgeon Arun from the Koshi area who affirmed to be a NMO worker though no introduction with NMO despite studied at RIIMS, Ranchi!).

I could have some acquaintances- one NGO worker Debashish told me that he in any way will work for the rehabilitation either remaining in the Jindal or even out of that!

Maybe I may not concentrate for long for work all over, due to my physical limitations, I wish many more join and emulate.

Sevaksherte, Koshikshetre-1

Sevaksherte, Koshikshetre-1

With an abdominal upset for 48 hours, I am back from flood area-serving some 3000 patients with drugs provided by Jindal Steel who have earmarked Rs.10 million for relief and rehabilitation. But will they work for the socio-economic regeneration of the poorest part of motherland by establishing some industry there?
Will Koshi be tamed?

Will high dam's dream will be replaced by permanent solution like interlinking several tributaries of Koshi and making river route round the year by de-silting?

The National disaster has been combated by the teams of several states, Gujarat with more than 100 ambulances, truck loads of food and other matters by NGOs of several states..

I worked in 1977 Andhra cyclone, 1984 and 1987 Koshi Floods -the palpable difference is mass participation of such national and international agencies..

The local people of Koshi area flooded or saved in fact saved thousands of lives before reaching any help.
Politicians are hampering relief work by diverting attention from relief to distant to district headquarters- even we could not go to RD 22 where maximum concentration of devastated people was reported..
State Govt. Doctors are unnecessarily hauled up by authorities though they were not provided even minimal comforts of shelter-all available spaces were gobbled up by ardalis of Ministers..
Officials are looting the money. In Saharsa town sweets are on high sale.. many Flood scam will come on surface in future..
Yet many are serving from their heart.
More in next..

Koshi Flood relief work

Koshi Flood relief work

I gave detailed report of the Koshi floods in Mithila in meetings of 7th September 2008 at Ranchi and informed that I was going there to serve humanity with a Steel company’s group which has purchased medicines worth one lakh rupees on my suggestion of important medicines. I steel . AMP is running its camps there in Purnea area where team from Delhi supported by L &T will reach soon as said Kripanand, G. Secy, AMP. Sulabh International is also extending cooperation to the AMP and I gave its Maharashtra and Jharkhand coordinator’s number to Rajeev when I was passed this by Kripanand. I talked Amiriji Bokaro and Tulanand Mishra who were collecting relief under a joint banner. Joint banners are good but accountability is diluted and hence one can not evolve proper organization though joint programmes which are many times because same set of workers are in such organizations.

Maithili second language of Jharkhnad

Maithili second language of Jharkhnad

Two meetings of the Antrrashtriya Maithili Parishad(AMP), Ranchi were addressed by me on Sundaqy 7th September 2008.
The meeting of LN MIshra Colony was presided by Sri Shatrughna Kumar Jha and Shri Sushil Kumar Rai presided meeting at Ram Temple, Shahdeonaghar.
Shri Shatrughna Kumar Jha was elected president for the session 2008-9,for Antrrashtriya Maithili Parishad(AMP), Ranchi West . Shri Sushil Kumar Rai and Shri Krishna Kumar Thakur were elected vice president and Secretary.

The meeting at LN Mishra colony was addressed by Shri Shiv Kumar Jha, Sri Bishwambhar Thakur, Shri Indra Narayan Jha, Shri Chhatradhari, Shri Yamuna Prasad Singh, Shri Rambinod Chaudhary etc.

The meeting at Rammandir, Shahdevnagar had speakers Shri Meghanath Jha, Shri Ganganath Jha, Shri Sushil Kumar Chaudhary, Shri Premchand Thakur, Shri Yugeshwar Thakur, Shri Surendra Jha, etc.

I insisted to go to Ganganath Jha’s house where we had some fruitful discussion on Maithili community’s status and political potential which maybe bargained with BSP like UP, if we can develop proper leadership.

I had said in the meetings that Maithili speakers constitute the biggest linguistic group of Jharkhand as the majority of the people of Santhal Pargana speak Southern Maithhili or Angika. But despite that still Maithili has not been given the status of second language of the State.

Kho-kho

Kho-kho
This morning I again went to Jaipal Singh stadium where First Ranchi District Tournament of Kho-Kho was concluded with a thrilling match between two teams of boys and girls. They played well. One of the excited girl encouraged her friend(boys’ team ) so much that her friends team turned the game in its favour and they were winner.
Among girls team too, the little girls defeated the girls of their double age.
Sports Director of Ranchi University Jay Kumar Sinha as chief guest spake about XXXIV national game to be held at Ranchi. He was sore at that it was not given due publicity. We distributed prizes to winners. It was one of the assignments I had as the District President of the Association but more important was my own involvement in a game which is easy to play, fast and of low cost.

Repair of Koshi breach to route pre-Kushha stage of Koshi be stopped

Repair of Koshi breach to route pre-Kushha stage of Koshi be stopped
Shri BK Jha just phoned that attempts to reroute Koshi on pre-Kushha stage be opposed till study of whole system was done for this a PIL in Supreme Court be filed and Nepali Maithils too resist the thing. Let our Delhi friends draft the memoranda with the help of Dinesh K Mishra. I am opposed to high dams in any case.

Koshi flood relief work

Koshi flood relief work

Yesterday I applied for outstation permission for 12-14 September 2008 and leaves from 2.10-12.10.08 with a protest note that willing persons should have been asked for going to serve flood victims.
I was late to sleep in searching one of the visiting card of a Maithil Mohan Mishra, Chairman, Bihar Cell, BJP whom I have asked to be president AMP, Mumbai when I was there lat year.
Yesterday a Maihtil, Rajeev taken my id from any Bihar group had written me for giving addresses of some important Maithils at Mumbai for flood relief work on which I had replied that as I work for Mithila state would like an appeal from the Mumbai Maithils specifically. He phoned me and we were introduced. He was from Dasuth(Darbhanga) and I could not give him Mohan Mishra’s number which I immediately retrieved today from my excel-sheet which has over 2900 numbers and due to laziness, I could not add a few hundred more from my recent notes maybe of previous one year. Tomorrow never comes and I entered some data from my Kolkata visit on 31.8.2008.
This morning I had a call from a lady whom I had never talked but she was as much confident that I was knowing her. Yes on clarification I could get that they lived upstairs of my quarters before I left for Bangalore. She was then running an NGO and now is connected with a steel house looking after its social wing. She asked me to arrange for two doctors immediately (from tomorrow to join the team for Saharsa). It was not possible though I assured her that I will surely start on 11th for which I have already applied leaves. In cases some medicos from RMV/ MGMMC join it would be a good team. I may prefer working for them as they have an outlay of Rs. one lakh for medicines which is difficult to collect at a short notice. However, I will also for few days join Vivekanand’s team at Beldaur in case I join the steel house team.
The medical services will be needed for long but such industrial houses have some other points in mind to show up to authorities that they reported.
I am also sorry that my NMO networking has been weak in these days due to internal bickering otherwise by this time teams many should have been in Mithila as well as in Assam. Only yesterday Dr. Patgiri from Guwahati talkd on phone regarding that. NMO was founded by me for taking the role of a mini –Red Cross but some members thought that it was a passport to cross some political miles.
Flood relief collection centres I saw many in the town while returning after inaugurating a kho-kho match in a tournament (as district president of kho-kho Association).
So more important is the distribution of materials to the needy and every such NGO should send its persons to do it in their presence and try to reach the most needy which in fact receive nothing in the procedure.

Dinesk K. Mishraji phoned from Delhi9where his book on Koshi will be released tomorrow) that Purnea camp needed drugs but most of the drugs we receive as physicians samples are not of routine use. Drug houses should generously come for donation of such drugs rather they should have a regular provision of some 10 per cent donation to such calamities in stead of serving us as physician’s sample. This 15,000 crore evergreen industry can do a lot of philanthropic work and surely doctors too should leave their greed for material things and sponsoring tours.

I told that lady of Steel House on her offer of remuneration that I would like to re-donate there itself to some camp. There are good persons and in the society majority are good in such situation. My writer friend Indra Narayan Jha told me that he went himself to deposit Rs.500 to Bihar Club the banner I saw this morning when had gone for kho-kho match.

Kho-Kho and me:little players consulting their little captain making a whorl of flowers

Kho-Kho and me:little players consulting their little captain making a whorl of flowers.
Yesterday Ajay Jha asked me to come to Jaipal Singh Stadium to inaugurate a district kho-kho competition at 630 am which was a bit difficult for me and I had requested him to send someone to pick up. However he called me by 615 am and I got up. In fact, I was late in night to sleep .
I was ready at the earliest and reached there by 7.15. The match had already startd . District Sports Officer was there and also a Sister teacher from a missionary school. There were young boys and girls –all in playing mood. I was told that some of them had represented state also in various national meets. So, Jharkhand has not only Dhoni nor cricket is only play. I was introduced as District President of Kho-kho team.
I was so few years back when I had left Bangalore and was unaware that they are carrying still me.
I had played kho-kho during my childhood in the RSS shakhas and I feel it is a useful game with cheap cost to play at. Still they need some money and I will see how the jersis for the team is provided and some prizes on Tuesday.
The introduction of the girl teams was like any big play. Little children with sweet names.
When I had asked some girls sitting right side to me on chairs where I had gone in search of shade from sun though it was also not there. Bhadav’s sun is most piercing some washer man had said to my father(as my sister had told to me some days back). Washer men experience the sun round the year in washing cloths better than other. In fact I had sneezing due to some pollutants and I chose to be alone for some time- distant from the somehow made board for the guests.
There I asked some girls from which school they were. “We are from the college, from Ranchi Women’s college.” I an I joked them that better your college was named as the Ranchi Girls’ College; you were girls not women seeing small heights.
Some player from them had taken a photograph of ours and had also offered me two laddos, a small cup of soft drink and pure water. The coconut distributed afterwards I did not take (for it contains saturated fat which maybe bad for a sedentary like me but not players and young like them).
I was for some time in the shade of an eclectic pole and soon I was called to inaugurate matches between girls team who had already their warming up exercises from slow pace walking to fast exercises.
One team of St. Anna School had girls younger than Day Boarding team and when I was asked to toss for them as inauguration of team- the younger captain opted for Head and I wished that she got that and she got and exclaimed,” Running.”
And I remember how all 11 little players were consulting something with their little captain in Olympian style( all heads whispering and listening as if making a whorl of flowers. Yes they were little flowers in deed.
I do not know what other team is called chasing or sitting but it was amusing to watch them for few minutes before I left the field to pick up my chamber where I was late and patients were waiting.
Sports should be promoted at all levels. Ajay was telling that he would put me for state presidency of kho-kho. That is not important rather encouraging by heart and participating.

Koshi flood Relief work

Koshi flood Relief work

Flood water is receding as per reports and problem of flood victims are increasing day by day. Yesterday Ashokji, physiotherapist of my hospital told me that 12th September maybe a holiday for us and I thought to serve the victims even for three days. I phoned Dr. Vivekananda who took me to Koshi floods at Koparia in 1984 (and then I had written an editorial as Calamity Medicine to start a branch of medicine which has today developed as Disater Medicine). He told me that now water level is more in down slopes as Beldaur on Madhepura border and if I confirmed even for 2-3 days they can utilize that time. I have requested NMO’s senior workers Dr. K.P. Sinha and Dr. Shanti Prakash to find some medicos if they can go with me. I also contacted Rajivranjan of the MGMMC, Jamshedpur and result will be known in 2-3 days if somebody among young was interested . I know collecting useful medicine from physician’s sample is almost impossible as the sampled medicines are those which were hardly needed by poor victims. I also asked some AMP workers if they collect some materials.

This morning from my company three doctors left with a carvan of 4 cars but I was not asked for the obvious reasons. I would have gone but my working style would not have suited many.

Sri Bidhu Jha, MLA (Radisson), Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier of Manitoba
Winnipeg, Canada encouraged our moral writing;

This is to make a simple yet very challenging appeal to all of you to show " We can do it!". Bihar Flood is a serious disaster which has made me cry watching the human sufferings and losses. It has been making head line news all over the world including in Canada.

We need international attention and immediate action plan : I see two clear action plans;

(1) To set up of an internationally managed and centralized Bihar Flood Relief Agency
and immediately set up Bank accounts or an arm's length body to be fully accountable for funds collection and distributions.

(2) To set up an international organizing committee in all commonwealth nations + USA Etc where NRI population can contribute in re-building Bihar after the flood. I am willing to do that in Canada.
I feel helpless being so farther. I would pledge $ 300 dollars immediately to the fund to begin.”

I think it is a great task and requested Kripanand Jha to look into the possibilities as suggested.

Shri Gangesh Gunjan also encouraged with his heart-touching poem.

Shri Rajeev of Mumbai also wanted to know how the Mumbai’s Biharis can help:

“ I am Rajeev from Darbhanga basically currently located in mumbai.I am planning to organise a meet of biharis in mumbai and plan what we biharis in mumbai can do for flood relief.

. Request you to appeal all the biharis in your contact to be a part of this event and guide us.

. In chennai, bihari labourers have collected 55 lakh Rs but in mumbai despite of having more bihari population than chennai we have not done much/anything.So I am writing the mail to all the biharis in the grp. Also,
I wrote him:
“…Fund collection is important but more important is fund appropriation which is difficult to achieve. Of course that only can be collected outside.

There are lakhs of Maithils and Biharis in Mumbai who can do a lot. I can give you some numbers of important persons who know AMP well.
You are young and can do a lot.

I am feeling exhausted and need helping youngs if such aspirations are to be fulfilled.

Teachers’ Day need other day -Guru Purninma or Lokmanya Tilak's birthday

Teachers’ Day need other day -Guru Purninma or Lokmanya Tilak's birthday

Country celebrates today as Teachers’ day on the birthday of S. Radhakrishanan who was a famous teacher and philosopher. I do not know when it was started but most probably when he was alive.
Whether Dr. Radhakrishanan was most famous teacher of the time or was it so because he could be president of India? In Wikepedia it is said that When he became President, some of his students and friends requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, September 5. He replied that Instead of celebrating his birthday, it would be his proud privilege if 5 September was observed as Teachers' Day."

I was always wondered as to why Teachers day was celebrated in schools while Radhkrishanan taught in University, never in any school.

His taught as the King George V Chair of Mental and Moral Science at the University of Calcutta (1921-?) and Spalding Professor of Eastern Religions and Ethics at Oxford University (1936-1952).

Hence, either Teachers’ Day should be celebrated in the University or a teacher of school should have been searched if traditional Guru Puja on Ashadhi Purnima was not supposed to be secular for that though that would have been ideal as Vyas was the best teacher who made a series of disciples which continues his teaching as Vedas and Puranas relevant even today. I am surprised as to how Radhakrishanan himself had not pointed out this!

In the historical era too Chankya was ateacher par excellence and Charaka and Sushruta in their branch of science.
Even among teachers of modern age, probably Du Rezio’s fame as a nationalist teacher at Calcutta or Bal Gangadahar Tilak or Master Surya Sen would have been ideal.

This I said to a lady teacher of the local NIFFT who teaches Engineering science and had come to me for a medical certificate and said that her college was opened and had no function today.

Nobody celebrated Dr. Rajendra Prasad’s birthday though he was the first President. Maybe because Nehru did not like him.

Dr. Radhkrishanan’s contribution was in philosophy yet for Philosopher’s day Shankaracharya or Vachaspait’s remembrance would have been ideal.

Chauth Chandra and Koshi floods-II

4.9.08
Chauth Chandra and Koshi floods-II
While returning from my health centre, in the colony I overheard two ladies talking that Ganesh Pija was in the Community Hall. At residence my sister told me that the previous year it was held in my residence itself when not allotted to anyone. After bath and puja to ganesh, we tried to see Lord Moon wit fruits in hands but it was cloudy and we could not have a glimpse. Anyway, I thought I would not be unnecessarily blamed in next year though will not get anything if had desired as Lord Ganesh had promised to Lord Chandra while absolving him of his curse.
I searched book Mithilak Pavani Tihar (Urvashi prakashan,13 MIG, Hanuman Nagar, Kankarbag, Patna 800020, Rs.35 pp.144) which my sister could give me this morning and there the detail story of Chaurchand was given.
This puja gives one wealth, son and make happy,
Santkumar ,son of Brahma had said in detils to his brother Sanatkumar about it.
Lord Krishna had done Ganeshpuja on Bhadav Krishna 4 when referred by Narad to remove his false blame due to seeing Moon on that day.

Narad said to Krishna that after the Ganeshpuja by asthavidh done by Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh for the shristi to be without obstacle ,Ganesh said it will be so and given them laddus. After that he was going through sky. Ganesh and Moon saw each other. On the peculiare body and face of Ganesha , moon laughed at. Ganesh in rage cursed him that moon was proud on his beauty and so from that day nobody will look at moon and if anyone would have looked at him he/she will get false blame.
Moon was stunned and he became lusterless. Moon entered in water and lived with Kumudini.
Goda, sages, Gandharvas in the leadership of Indra went to Brahma. Brahma said them to worship Ganesha Bhadrapad Chaturthi with Ladoos and different good food delicacies. Brahma said this to moon on the request of gods.
Moon did thus worship as suggested foods and stutis. Ganesh became pleased and asked for vara. Moon asked to make him curse free so that people should look at him as before. Ganesh said that he was making moon curse free but those who will look at moon on Bhadav Krishna 4 he will get false blame but those who will at moon from the beginning of the month he/she will not get false blame, additionally those who will look at moon on Bhadav Krishna 4 after puja and in hands frits and flowers will get desoired.

This is the relation between Ganesh chaturthy and Chorchun..uniquely celebrated in Mithila while others only do Puja of Ganesh..
Still I went community Hall and was surprised to listen to the Strot(Vishny sahasranam) by a lady on mike in superexpress speed , followed by a young Telugu priest in the same Superexpress speed and then commonly quite prolong strtrapath by males and females ,most of them had that by hard and in superexpress speed.
I had an appreciation for them for their Sanskrit leanings not so seen in north India.

Then I want to a Maithil’s jpuse for shraddhabhoj of his mother. There was a Maithil from the neghbourhood of Supaul and we hd a discussion on flood. I phoned Dinesh Mishraji who was at Jamsedpur and exchanged the ideas on his statement on rediff. Hindustan had contacted him as ex Water Resource Minister Jagdanandji had criticized Dineshji’s stand and had asked for immediate varahkshetra Dam’s construction. Dineshji has been only pointing out its feasibility and constrains in its way not opposing or supporting the High dam.
Personally I am convinced that High dam will not be feasible and better all barrages be broken on Kosi and other rivers and desilting be done of channels as well as 60,000 ponds of Mithila and Maithils should live friendly with rivers as they had been since millennia and their problems are man-made.
However if Dineshji is cursed I had not asked him whether he was so anti-traditional engineer that had looked at Moon any time on Chauth Chandra without fruits in his hands!
People informed that they saw in TV that mothers had still Chaurchand in Koshi dai’s water! After all Hindu mytology has no place for sorrow- shristi, sthilthi and parlay are the wishes of that Parmatma only!

Chauth Chandra and Koshi floods

Chauth Chandra and Koshi floods

Mentally I was wandering since morning to wrote something on Chauth Chandra/ Chaur Chand, a common festival in Mithila while Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated in western and southern India(last evening a Kannadiga said me that for translation work of Kannad stories to Maithili be left for Ganesh Chaturthi and I remember even Telugus here in this colony at Ranchi were celebrating it which I had once attended).
And when after listening to a lecture on insights in modern vaccines I opened e-mail, I found B K Karna from Hyderabad who is a deep thinkr and systematic worker asking ,

“Today, we are celebrating CHAUTHI CHAAND.
Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated in all over India.

I want to know
1) How many Ganesh temples are in Mithila?
2) Any historical or oldest temple of Ganesha
3) Vighna haarta Ganesh is not popular in Mithila. Why? Mithila is facing series of problem. Can this be linked?
4) Relation between Chauthi Chaan and Ganesh Puja.
I replied him :
Chaurchand is unique to Mithila where we celebrate it for festivity
Ugahi Chan ki lapkahi pua since our childhood, everyone whose mother is alive will remember it.
Even today we will have it
Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated in all over India and yesterday TEEJ as festival in most of the parts of Bihar also-some Maithilanis too have started doing it for the well being of her husband.

You always want to know something in deep of Mithila's culture but let me repeat again that Mithila(or for that matter any part of India's) culture is same as other part of the country with some specifications and distinctions only.
1) How many Ganesh temples are in Mithila?- There are buit not many; at least one I had visited during my cycle yatra in 1994 at Kharka Basant village. Others may add.

2) Any historical or oldest temple of Ganesha- we will have to find..

3) Vighna haarta Ganesh is not popular in Mithila. Why? Mithila is facing series of problem. Can this be linked?- Ganesh is popular even otherwise. Every Puja starts from him. Though Mithila does have a Shaiva-Shakti tradition more we do not have many aspects of Ganesh- maybe Ganeshji requires laddoo but Maithils sweets are khaja and rosgulla.(just a humor!).
I read in the autobiography of Sir Ganganath Jha that he (or someone)had once taken a vow that will perform 10 days Ganesh puja iin Bhadav mas at Darbhanga if some thing might happen..

This year a Maithil Ashwini hailing from Madhepura ,born and brought up at Dhanbad had come to meet me(with one of my long 3 columns statement published in Hindustan in 2003 on Mithila Rajya) with a proposal that he had been organising Ganesh Puja there should be organsed by the AMP there and at many places which will provide fund by lottery but I declined as fund is not only thing that be collected anyway and secondly Mithila is flood ravaged in Bahadav(which became as we see today) when such big function on Marathi scale could not be held.
Maybe this might have been a cause for not having 10 day Ganapati Puja in Mithila rather we celebrate Navratra when weather is congenial.
But remember there is also an idol of Ganesha in Durga Puja(as well as of Laxmi and Sarasawati who usually not live together anywhere except in Mithila and of course we have not left Kartikeya too being mesmerized by beautiful Ganesha)..

In Karnataka I saw during Durga Puja days they have Saraswati Puja and Laxmi Puja..we do it in Basant Panchami and Deepawali and Kojagra! Where is difference in north and south /Arya and Dravida?

4) Relation between ChauthiChaan and Ganesh Puja- There is a relation.

Chandrama is very beautiful and he saw Lord Ganesh as inferior probably laughed at him seeing him Lambodar/Gajanan body.

Ganeshji cursed him that he will loose his beautiful body.

Chadrama became kantiheen.

He was advised by some devta to worship Ganesh on his birthday(Ganesh Chaturthi) and he did that. Ganeshji became pleased and said ,'anybody if worship me today will get this..that.. and if see you(moon) will get this ..that.. but if anybody will see you without fruts etc(without puja) will be cursed and have some blames..
That blame Lord Krishna too had and was said to have theft Symantak Mani..serching which he went in deep caves where Jambvaan(from Ram's time) was there and fought with him 21 days when Jamban recognised that He was Ram's incarnation and returned the Mani and offerred his daughter to marry- Jambavati became Krishna's wife(one among important 8 though He had 16000 others from Assam's jail where his rath piolt was the wife Dwarka town bred Sayabhama)..

The mantra we recite seeing the moon is;
Singh Prasen mavadhit Singhau jambabta Hatah
Sukumark Marodu Yah Tamess Syamantakah.."

I may be some wrong and too precise in haste.
When I started Maithili work in 1992 at Ranchi the first function I could motivate was Chaur Chand at Kanke.
While I was at Bangalore, AMP celebrated it where Dhirendra's mother did all puja- and some 8-10 families were there..alas! that AMP group was dismantled due to childish behavior of a few and dissociated with us on the name of sending savings to HQ of AMP.
But in that function many Maithils had came first and saw each other- one was from my Matrik Koilkh Prabhas Thakur who had come with his mother! What enchanting moment was that someone coming to unknown Maithil's house for community festivity of Chaur Chand..I have some photographs of that function..

That group after leaving AMP, did some New year feast ,certainly in such Macualey copy festivities mothers or sisters would nopt have joined- ght be a matter for couples only like many modern parties!
Wherever we are we need to introspect who we are and why we should organise.
Any organisation is for some sanatan values and AMP stands for that where Chaurchand like festivals have meanings more than it looks, Ugahi chan ki lapkahi pua..

Now that I have lost my mother (and a sister who is performing full puja - haath uthenai like Chhati pawani) is also on piligrimage today might be in return from Bhimashankar Pune to Darbhanga.. nor Dhirendra's mother is there at Bangalore where I might have been if not opted for request transfer back to Ranchi..yet my youngest sister said me yesterday at least some khir will be made in house and after that I will go for dwadasa bhoj for a Maithil in the colony(as after shradha bhoj we do not take anything)..
But many more, may be in hundreds or even thousands died in Koshi dai's furry in Mithila how those village can have chaur chand or will have Durga Puja can only be imagined!
I have in my youth had seen a Chistmus in the burrial ground of Andhra's cyclone ravaged areas in 1977 ; had worked in Koshi floods in 1984 and 1987, maybe those memoirs of 1987 enthuse some one as to how such social work can be done though written in Hindi, can send for the interested ones who may read that Installing Krutidev font from the attachment to read that.

Mental Swirling between Jagdalpur and Koshi bed: Koshites will have to be united politically for them Mithila statehood a weapon for self defence

Mental Swirling between Jagdalpur and Koshi bed: Koshites will have to be united politically for them Mithila statehood maybe a weapon for self defence

This morning Dr.Ashok Kale from Naxal-Missionary twin infested Bastar area of
Jagdalpur phoned me for having a first hand information of sanitary napkins ,local made at Ranchi by a NGO which could be helpful in his RCD camps there.
The area of Bastar always attracted me particularly in the map of India where one can see a line depicting Indravati river but it was my misfortune that I could never go there as there was no medical college till recently where Dr. kale had joined as professor of the SPM resigning from a medical college in the vicinity of the culturally rich Pune.
For him it was a job from where he could fulfill his social commitments and pursue his ideals.
Two days back I saw a half page article on a doctor Vinayak Sen who was behind bars with charges f treason. Maybe ideals different but both doctors are doing the same social service from a distant look.
If the menace of Naxal is to be outbreed many social workers will need to take Dr. Kale’s way and same is the befitting reply to missionaries conversion net.
He was happy that Dr. Sanjeev Kelkar and his wife Dr. Sajeevani Kelkar are still having appreciation with me.
I asked his experiences to have a medical college of the NMO on the Indo-Nepal border to which he suggested names to contact Raipur though they will be agreeable for the location is doubtful.
As a student of Gita(since I am one of its translator in my mother tongue, Maithili) I know I should be in the equanimity and in past six years of time has made me so from many near and dear who were ideologically bound but went astray for material reasons.
In Shrimad Bhagwata it has been said that a time comes wqhen one has to realize above all Gunas, even Satoguna and that Naistraigyanh is the Ultimate any person should aspire though I am a worldly creature and have many thoughts to do or not!

Though it does not seem that I may join Dr, Kale at Jagadalpur , in that deep interior with the fluidity of my personal life with self accepted social goals, like just now had a call from Delhi from BK Jha where Dinesh Mishra’s comments on Koshi flood needed to be clarified on rediffboard let me say that what I wrote Koshi as Koshi dai is in fact true at least for me as I am one from Kaushik gotra and hence Koshi is the eternal elder sister of my ancestor Sage Vishwamitra.

There are reports on flood devastatins and I could find Dinesh Mishra’s book, Dui Patan Ke Beech Me,which has an extensive story of Koshi from mythology to geography and history of dam planning and devastation.
Dinesh K. Mishra’s new book, Trapped between Devil and deep water: The story of river Koshi will have second edition soon with the story of Kusha breach which is causing devastation in these days, newspapers and TVchannels are full. There are reports from miscreats also looting innocent people. Flood scams will appear soon.

Dineshji saw Ghonghepur first asfter Navhatta block of Saharsa and then onwards he himself was sank in the sands of Koshi what I mean his personal life and continued, maybe forcefully , his bachelorshiplike folklore which does not accept her as wife of old sage Rrichik. Still we regard Koshi as Mai and Dineshji’s suggestion to marry wit Saptkoshi would be ethically rejected.
No body can control furry of Koshi by bandhs it should be cleared.
Of course river needs desilting as yesterday said Mishraji from Forbesganj when I could talk him in the evening. This morning also I could talk Prof. NL Das who suggested to offer relief materials to local authorities though Dr. ravindra Chaudhary at last night suggested we personally hand over materials during Oct.3-5 , the group of Jamshedpur reaching Barauni 3rd morning where I can join them.

Personally I feel tired and as if not keeping well to have any big initiative however would symbolically be with them and wish some young and enthusiastic join the move.
Sri BK Jha’s suggestion that Koshi migrants should be given at par relief and facilities wit Kamiri migrants echoes right but for this Koshites will have to be united politically for them Mithila statehood maybe a weapon for self defence.

Before I close I had as call from distant Jamnagar from Namonath Vivek who has gone there for a simple livelihood he could not get in Mithila or vicinity. He had published ‘Jibachh’ magazine hand-written for many issues and had been a good worker. An ideal to be a whole timer was pressed with early marriage and three daughters(may be for aspiring a son!) and had to join a service , even now getting merely Rs.7500 per month.
Not only Namonath many more such young who could have changed the face of Mithila, we could not encash for want of money which was never shared by the elite of city Maithils of Bangalore, Pune and many before and many would be.

Anyway a time will come when they will repent.

I never wanted an organization of personal gratification and though I concluded this morning with Dr. Kale in 27.06 minute(still 10 minutes earlier than previous), Namonath in 2.51 minutes telling him that I will come when needed giving information to come Delhi Dec.21-22 and if comes home to meet during Durgapuja at Jaynagar from where Dr. Kamalkant Jha gave him my number.
There was a time when Dr. Kale was in Arunachal and his young daughter’s freeship application was questioned- whether docir parents’ child need freeship? ‘She replied they do not earn.
Dr. Kelkar and Bhabhi Sanjeevani established Ashwini Hospital in their youth and they had to return when they faced some problems from senior ideologues of our group.
Rightly Dr. kale said me that even Marathi Sant Jnaeshwar’s work was criticized(like that of Tulsi’s Ramcharitmanas in north!)
Though I am not scared of my death, I want to remain unknown, unsung as already I have written in my autobiography which may remain unpublished like that of many work of Dr. Laxman Jha of Mithila but people like Kale, Kelkar, and Namonath may not allow me to be quite !

31st August 2008: A day in pre-Delhi Capital of British India: Kolkata
Mithila samad, Koshi, NMO
There was a furor on Rajiv Gandhi’s statement that Kolkata was a dying city tough still sign of regeneration in Kolkata is not fast visible and like others I again found beggars on the street and the man –pulled rickshaw which attracted Domnique to put that as an nsignia of the town he cherished as ,’The City of Joy,’ which is still if not cultural capital of India as remarked by Ashok Jha, president of the Mithila Vikash Parishad, Kolkata while delivering his long address on the release of only Maihtili daily, Mthila Samad , in the historic Mahajati Sadan which Gurudeo Rabindranath Thakur had dreamt to be a hall where many jatis(rastras ) will meet as rightly said by Tapas , ex MLA of the Trinamool Congress.
For me the most important piece from the Sadan where I had onced listened to Advani and Rajnath Singh was not merely the relase of the Maithili premiere but while coming out almost unnoticed to catch my train was the gallery which had portraits of the great martyrs in which one of the medical student , Binoy of BBD(Binoy Badal Dinesh on which the Dalhousie was renamed) on whom I had once written in the Aayurvigyan Pragati attracted me
Benoy Krishna Bose( 11.9.1908 -self immolation 13.12.1930)
Badal Gupta (1912--self immolation 8.12.1930)
Dinesh Gupta( 6.12.1911-hanged 7.7.1936)
Khudiram Bose( 3.12.1989- hanged 11.8.1908)
And there were many more Shahids portraits which was asking me to pay my attention despite my train was about :
Prafulla Chaki(10.12.1880-self immolation 1.5.1908)
Matangini Hazra(though not mentioned probably Bagnla 1277 saal- shot dead 19.4.1942)
Pritilata Ohededar(5.5.1911- self immolation 24.3.1932)
Subasher Mitra( 15.5.1900-10.9.1931)
Manoranjan Sen( hanged 22.11.1915)
Chittaranjan banerjee( 3.12.1919- hanged 27.9.1943)
Man Kumar Basu Thakur(28.6.1920- 22.9.1943)
Prasanna Majumdar ( 19.5.1892-15.6.1918)
Jatindra Nath Mukherjee(8.12.1887- shot dead 10.5.1915)
Kanhai Lal Dutta(10.9.1847-10.11.1908)
Surya sen(25.10.1893-12.11930)
Jatin Das( 1900- who died after 63 days hunger strike on 13.2.1929).
It seems some of the dates I noted in haste are ineligible.
There were many portrait on the top galleries which I could not read though saw.
There was a small gallery depicting Indian Independence Movement from 1857 onwards.

While I was writing the above on a note some of the eminent Maithils crossed me, one story writer Anmol who had met at Ranchi some months back and then I came out with Satyanand Pathak, Guwahati editor, Hindi daily Purvoday and Maithili quarterly, Purvottar Maithil whom at the first glance I had not recognized in the hall. I was happy that he was reactive after bereavement of his wife who was a lovely face of Guwahati meet I had attended some years back. Pathakji was unaware that I was back to Ranchi from Bangalore. While coming to road, a call from delhi by BK Jha for providing food to flood victims coming by free relief train from Saharsa. I requested him to contact AMP, G.Secy. Kripananad Jha who had that morning contacted me after consulting Prof. Gaurishankar Jha for a relief camp by the AMP. I had told him that by then money was pouring and as happened in all previous calamities, mismanagement because of nil infrastructure for the calamities will come on the surface with scams making holes by two legged rats.
When I was young I had participated in many relief camps from Andhra cyclone to floods in Mihtils and had sent teams to MIC Bhopal tragedy to Gujarat quakes but probably I am not having my ageing effect and so want to take a smoother route. Still when this morning I had a call from Pawan Jha of Jamshedpur to contact Gopi Raman Chaudhary , I tried to contact first Forbesganj which had flood waters as my sister was informed from my young brother at Mumbai, however, I could not get Prof. Das at Forbesganj or Dr. L. Jha, Saharsa, Bhuvan Chaudhary, Khagaria or Prof. Gaurishankar Jha, Purnea. The bell in the telephome exchange was ringing in my mobile but by then Bhuvan Chaudhary rang back and I could confirm that water has entered in the low lying area of Purnea, Forbesganj, and Saharsa; Madhepura has deep water; Khagaria’s Beldaur-Choutham is flooded.
He was of the opinion that the flood effect will last long and hence, we decided that during Oct.3-5 he will accompany me to Purnea- Madhepura- Arariya- Forbesganj- Supaul and before I reach Jaynagar to commence cycle yatra a bit late curtailing the routes would it be possible to go via Bhardah/ Biratnagar to Sirha- Marari reaching Jaynagar?
We, are not whole timers and we have constraints of leaves and hence through Maithili Workers training Camp we intend to have some part/whole timers who can be posted priority wise at Khagaria(for Samastipur-Munger- Bhagalpur); Saharsa(for Saharsa division); Purnea(for Purnea division); Muzaffarpur(Tirhut division); Jaynagar(Darbhanga- Madhubani and adjoining Terai).
I mentioned industrialist Kamdeo Jha to sponsor such workers though I could not tell him my dream to have a Medical College in Mithila for many more such big personalities will be required. Kamdeo Jha listened to me sympathetically and also gave number to contact his village manager for meeting there during cycle Yatra.

We need many more workers as floods will come again and again and so many problems of Mithila which has population of 4-5 crore, bigger than many states of India.
Surprisingly the Mithila Samad releasing ceremony had a remark by a Bakshi, leader of the TMC that Mithila deserved Statehood which Ashok Jha in his long list of achievements and promises did not mention (and probably anticipating that I may echo the slogan of Mithila was not invited on the dais?- anyway there was hardly time after long speeches and audience assembled for watching cultural fete which though was untimely when eastern Mithila was ravaged by floods I commented Dr. Vidya Nath Jha Vidit that some Bengali artists would have been welcomed but not almost all presentation in dances.
Not that those were not good but because I feel Mithila’s vacant space was being utilized by others not merely in the fields of arts and culture also in the journalism too like the Mithila Samad was from a group owned by a Knaykubja Brahmin from UP , Shri Vajpayee who was given traditional Maithili honour on the dais. In contrast it was a matter of self inspection that a legendary maithil Prakash Jha opted for a non- Maithili channel and so Maithil singer Udit Narayan or lady singer from Madhepura (I have certainly a memory block naming that famous singer) chose Bhojpuri songs for their creer growth. Whether such all had a feeling Yatri had when he had to write in Hindi as Nagarjuna for his self- sustenance!

Rightly an ex- MLA, commented 4 crores of Maihtils should have it long back!

Not that attempts were done- late Surendra Jha’ Suman’ tried his best for publishing Swadesh and then of Mithila Mihir but they were aborted like most of the Maithili journals starting from Mithila Hit Sadhan of Jaypur in 1905.

This morning I read in the Prabhat Khabar’s Surendra pathak’s comment on Mithila samad’s release who had cautioned for internal differences and non-purchasing habits of books and periodicals among Maithils which should be seen with some grave warnings by Sri Nebar and others from the dais for difficulties in continuation of a paper . Yet , the city which had given birth to Hindi’s first newspaper, Udit Martand will it be long lived Maithila Samad is in every one’s mind. No doubt, it needs some dedicated and obstinate persons like Ashok Jha but it needs even him to forget he had done it even if he would be forgotten like me in many spheres of my life.

My firm view is that till Govt. support as advertisement is available dailies would not run though I wish Mithila Samad to run (and to help getting Mithila superscripted to its name of Samad or news in English).
Though Vidit ji mentioned my name from the dais many persons were serching me and I could meet some like Manish of Raipur.

I could see, Rajnanadn Lal Das, a veteran Maithili journalist who has a track record of continued publication of Karnamrit and had attended I International Maithili Conference in 1993 tghough could not recognize him and like wise one of the person, Bishnudeo Mishra in his home at Sugauna in Madhubani district I had a night stay in 1994. People think I have an amazing memory but recalling someone after 14 years is not humanly possible always though once I had recollected a person, Vijay Singh of village Jhanjhari after 29 years in a distant place, Madhubani where I had stayed with him at his sister’s sasur. Was it die to sonorous word Jhanjhari!
There was a dance demonstration on jhijhia like domkach etc. as well as Mithila’s marriaqge system done well by Bengali artists.
A time will come when others will emulate us and our children will prefer otherwise!

I could also not recognize Vinay Pratihast whose daugheters presented sonorous Maithili songs and one of her song was very much challenging to Maithils which was taken note by one of the political Bengali leaders’ speech following much later in series . Vinayji was of my ex- sasur(I was married to a Kolkatia aam, born and brought up in the vicinity of that Chitpur though it was too sweet to assume souness that we could not be gulped by each other for long! Her gradfather was teaching in a school, in the same area).
Though media person, Mamta Choudhary with her friend had tried to contact me for an interview in the Dharmshala and when I had asked for a minute time to take my shirt on banyan in formality, they did not wait. Media persons are always prime time but it was delighting to answer a pertinent question from an old Maithil and writer Susil Jha of Bajbaz, said to be the greatest store of oil in Kolkata,”While other languages of the country might have downfall after an up-rise why not any up-rise of our Maithili?”
He asked me because of his thinking that I was the most known Maithili organizer(and Maithili representative in Sahitya Akademy, Viditji had told Tarakantji, the editor of Mithila Samad, for me, only second to Dr. Lakshan Jha!) though I know that I am not that in the matters of scholarship or work and many more would have been higher place than me. I answered the question:
“40-50 million people do not as a whole even know that Maihtili is thjeir mother tongue.
Mithila, Maithili, Maithils are three different though related terms.
Migrant Maithils in MP, Chhattisgarh, Bengal, Braj areas call themselves Maithil but do not speak Maithili.
Downsouth Ganga, though calling themselves Maithils, they speak Maithili’s dialect but call Angika.
In Mitila politicians have been against Maithili as majority of the oppressed people were anti-Maharaja who incidentally being Maihtil Brahmnis the target became his language though only such oppressed majority speak Maithili, not the elite who have changed to Hindi and Hinglish.
It is all because we do not have a Mithila state which can sponsor its language.
Union of India has Maithili its language in Schedule but State of Bihar or Jharkhand does not recognize Maithili as State language.
99 per cent of Maithili organization has doors opened for all Maithils but 99 per cent of workers are from Brahmins(add to some extent Karn Kayasthas) and therefore the language of crores has leadership in some families of (Kaulik than kotik). And hence, no propagation of literature which is of literates and scholars and even otherwise Mithila has more illiterates than literates!
He said that Maithili is being used by some persons for going to Patna and Delhi to which I opposed that for this it is a weak path. For it persons should join Mayawati or Ramvilas or even Lalu thugh it was true that Lalu lost due to slide shifting of votes-
Saharsa commissionaryme ekhu lalten nahee jarlay was reported to me by Dr. LN Jha AMP, Patron there (though Darbhanga returned some MLAs)

There were many talks related to his son’s marriage which I after giving him some information said that due to one caste- dominance such meetings become venue for such social exchanges!

I had reached Dharmshala where I saw Vidit ji with Dr. Majar Suleman and Amarnath Jha from Darbhanga. It took me time to cojmprehend Amarnathji’s name whom I had met only few months back also but recognized Suleman at once; he is a rare Maithili commodity!
I was late because I did not see Viditji on Howrah station –my coach had been reversed to back at Muri in night and had gone to Kalighat to sister’s sasur where her father in law had forced me for many to big two size sandesh sweets ( after 2 rosugulla, 2 sandesh and sweet curd). I had not even washed my teeth and no puja but to get out of his house taking sweets was necessary.
I walked down to Dr. Sujit Dhar’s house where his Mrs. Talked to me in some neutral way. Dr. Satish Midha had also stayed to his house and he must have told her against me that I disobeyed RSS.
I tried to remove her misconception that the NMO was founded was some great person no more(I feel she was Dr.Abaji Thatte in her mind!).
The fact is that I had any such organization in my mind while I had been to jails in anti-capitation fee agitation of medicos in 1977 and on the suggestion of Govindacharya , I had gone to Varansi where I could gather some 40 medicos when NMO was found and Ma. Abaji came in 1988 first time at Bhagalpur’s NMO Conference though he always promoted NMO work. Dr. Sujit Dhar came first in 1987 at our Jamshedpur conference and there I even consulting many announced his name as the President.
So, NMO was founded by us and we asked help from the RSS which its members gave.

Now Dr. Sujit is seriously ill and was sleeping and hence I could not meet her but probably it was last visit to that house also where my marriage was also settled.
I know I am not in the habit of telling,”I did this/that,” and it was taken as a point for newcomers otherwise and some old who knew the facts meshed things to their benefit.
It was however, difficult to accept for me the assimilation of the NMO in Aarogya Bharati as well as to forget the role of non-RSS people( like Dr. BN Das Gupta) who nutured NMO thinking its indepedent/ autonomous status.
The truth is that the NMO was nurtured by most of the RSS workers but it was for all medicos who had nationalistic views and hence I was made an scapegoat which happily I accepted and we are pursuing to the right path without any compromise with national ethos.
I saw the Ttopical school and the Indian Institute of Public Health in the way again which I had seen first with Dr.Lalji Tiwary.
Calculating the high calories of sweets and being in no mood to go down in the humid climate of Kolkata where in the famous frit market though not a single fly it had a stinking path with many loaded and unloaded buses, I preferred not take food after doing Puja rather took a big guava and two small coconut laddos and two puris put as Prasad by Viditji. Shri Tulananad Mishra the senior Maithili writer whom I had met to take guidance when I had entered Maithili work in 1992 and who had correctd my manuscript of Maithili Gita, gave some dried chura made in Nadia which he had purchased while coming from Bokaro via Taraperth of Bengal. It was too salty and I took only some and drank water brought by Nabendu son of my great friend late Chadraknt Jha, Station manager of Ranchi Railway Station.
Dr. Hridesh saha phoned me in the evening but I had no time to meet him. I asked him to join NMO’s Bhopal Conference.

After talking to Satyanand Pathak, who was also in view that with better time management many scholars available from different parts of countries would have made better impact for strengthening Maithili Samad .
I took a bus to Howrah with one Maihtil Kaushal Kishore Jha of Durgauli village, near which I had passed in way to Mapaur and Tyotha while on pad yatra in 1992.He had to take a local train to Belur.
After seeing him off I saw there were few minutes and I went out to take four littis and came to PF-23 . My berth was confirmed and I took littis, had introduction with a young boy Tiwary who was working for the Cholamandalam Bank at Ranchi. I told him about Chola, Pallawans, Pandyans and Cheran of South, took two gulps of water from hjis bottle and slept informing my sister that I was in train from the pre-Delhi Capital of British India which has always attracting me since 1977 when I crossed through in way to cyclone ravaged Andhra(and I was trapped in the lift there while using for the first time in SE Railway’s Strand Road Office!). My area was ravaged today by Koshi Mai though Mithila Samad had first editorial and many photos on that we Maithils there could not deliberate out of organizational priorities of the organizers. Though it was not like ”When Rome was burning Nero was playing his flutes,” we lost a time in deed in some way or other .
