MIND THE GAP: Delhi Metro

MIND THE GAP: Delhi Metro
This was my one of the most crucial yatra to Dilli vaia kanpur.
While I was in way to Kanpour,I had an incidental meeting of Abhay, a leader of Congress related union of Sindri region at Gomoh station which is prefixed with Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and in fact with this name I had asked for a ticket at Ranchi counter and the booking lady had given me a ticket though no specific sign on her face as I might be lone to ask for a ticket like that and that is the same for many Delhi Metro station too- hardly anybody speaks of Guru Teg Bahadur but Camp(Kingsway Camp’s shortened form) like abbreviated form GTB is being used.
Metro of Delhi has today 7th birthday, I glanced in The Hindu this morning(25th Dec.2009) where I had some rides in this journey for the second time; first ime in October 2009, I had been from New delhi to Dwarka via Rajiv Chowk(CP for Connaught Palce has almost vanished like old architectures of their I saw is fastly changing to Mall which I feel should have been prevented but neither narrow gauge could be retained nor the rural pristine culture and on the name of development concretization erverywhere instead of the reign of nature).
I visit Delhi not very frequently and stay is limited and usually with KN Jha on bike but this time I had from the beginning is continuing also because the routes have become distant which had started with a 8.2 km in 2002 to 90 km.
When I reached New Delhi station on 22nd December morning I was not aware that it was the coldest day of the season by that day and we were seven; taking tickets in long queue would have been difficult but hint was given by KN Jha to cross the bay and take ticket from near exit side counter of the other side; six tickets for Patel Maidan to go to Janar Mantar for CK Jha, Mumbai, SN Mishra, Arariya, Chunchun Mishra, Rahika and Udayshankar Darbhanga, Bhim Singh Maithil of Faridabad and Nandan Mohan of Jaipur and for me, all coming from Kanpur Maithili Sammelan; when the booking girl asked Rs.16 more after I had given her Rs.100,I felt Delhi Metro is dearer than Kolkata Meto and the same public said me in after rides that it has just been doubled and if it would have happened so in Kolkata there must have been protest but not even murmur in Delhi because people are not sensitive here, have enough earning and are neutral to the social issues except in gossips.
I changed at Rajiv Chowk and reached Mayur Vihar with KN Jha. And went to Dharna.
On 23rd day I had other occasion to be in Metro and saw it till Rajaori garden for giving a TV discussion on Saubhagya Mithila, the first Maithili Channel in India. There was not much rush while going there and but in returning it was, till Kashmiri Gate in way to Burari for getting a bus from ISBT.
I found Metro’s announcements are often wrong for stations and also rush in peak hours is becoming unmanageable like Delhi buses I use to experience in previous years where men and animals can be equated like that of rush in Mithila buses and in fact people of Mithila must be outnumbering others in Delhi too because Mithila is parched of job opportunities due to misruling of Govt. of Bihar since Independence.
I felt yellow lines to caution on platforms should have been red for optical reasons- one can see red from distance and red is a sign of danger simulating blood, only lower to skeleton for preventing electrocution or even on cigarettes pack it can be.

At night too with Ratnesh I could come to Rajiv Chowk but was wrongly informed at GTB that no connecting train to Mayur Vihar though after I checked out, there passed a train Ratnesh informed me on 24th and he could not lodge a complaint due to paucity of time yet I could walk on empty heart of CP to go to Barakhabha Road from where could get Cab(like Bangalore’s IT hub) to go to Mother Dairy and then other till Mayur Vihar in just Rs.10 each, comparable to Metro fare.
I found people cooperative and helping in suggesting ways to reach. In Delhi too middle class has majority and none suggested me to have auto.
I had an occasion to be in Metro again on 24th in way to Burari till GTB and in afternoon it had no rush. I saw a teenager boy and girl in almost romantic mood and could know that Metro ride may have other meanings too.
While going there I used smart card which is cheaper and time saver.
Likewise one can be accustomed with escalators which seems fearful in first look
I recalled my Russian book in 1973 I had read about Metro first time. India is advancing surely but not Bharat. It is Bharat’s mini India which is advancing and so many poor from rural India are forced to come to Delhi and find their way in Metro too. On 24th I could meet two young boys from Saharsa’s chhatapur and of Sitamarhi and so many more like I used to meet in Mumbai locals.
Yet Delhi Metro is different from those locals of Mumbai which are faster than Kolkata’s suburban where one can find a lot of food materials but here a policeman advised me to be away of TV camera otherwise police will harass. I had read that eatables and drinking were not allowed in Delhi Metro I was not knowing it was so strict and in fact hence had taken grapes so that nothing will remain to throw but knowing that I kept that in my bag.
Delhi Metro or Mumbai locals show a life style of the area and show how rich or poor the centre has become and all rush is due to gap between rural and urban due to distorted national development which is capitalistic in the sense that here Capitals grow at the coast of country.
Every time Metro gate is opened, an announcement of,”Mind the Gap,” to prevent your foot engulfed and cut in between Metro and platform is done but would one MIND THE GAP between Capital and Nation bleeding common Indians?

Govindacharya favoured Mithila state creation at Jantar Mantar dharna of Maithils by AMP on 22.12.2009
Thus spake Govindacharya to Maithils demanding Mithial state atJantar Mantar on Tuesday evening (22nd Dec.2009)

Kedrikaran and ekrupeekarna of cultures is the greatest danger to the unity of country
Selfish people say that small state movement is dangerous to the nation.
Mithila’s demand is not without logic and it should be done.
I have read Deen Dayal Upadhaya and Dr.Ram,manohar’s Lohiya ‘s postulates of decentralization .
I am also with the thought of Mithila state since beginning.
Like in a garden so many types of flowers and that makes beauty of an garden likewise Jharkhand, Bhojpur, Magadha, Avadh and Mithila will make Bharat’s culture beautiful.
State formation is a matter for making diversity of county bountiful.
I will advise the agitationists to work like Arjuna whose one eye was not on the fish and other on Draupadi buit both eyes were on the fish.
If your one eye is on chair of power and the other on agitation it will not succeed.

Shri K.N Govindacharya, EX Gen. Secretary, BJP and an ideologue of repute addressed the Maithila on Dhrana for Mithila state at Jantar- Mantar on Dec.22 evening. It was a bit late due to his preoccupation but he reached despite that and addressed the Maithils who were eagerly waiting for that though most of the Maithils assembled have left and so the press and media person which might have made Mithila movement a national news on TV but as Mata Maithili(seta) was always hard luck it was one for this occasion also and incidentally video done also could not capture his sound yet his picture (in attachment) will produce an imagination of his body language and thereby a conviction that what he had said about the formation of state that Mithila fits the criteria for any state which should be formed on the basis
Kendrikaran and ekrupeekarna of cultures is the greatest danger to the unity of country
Selfish people say that small state movement is dangerous to the nation.
Mithila’s demand is not without logic and it should be done.

I am also with the thought of Mithila state since bingeing.
Like in a garden so many ties of flowers and that makes beauty of an garden likewise Jharkhand, Bhojpur, Magadh, Avadh and Mithila will make Bharat’s culture beautiful.

Half of Gandhi Maidan and Central Institutions of Patna will be claimed by Mithila- Patna Pustak Mela 09 seminar on Mithila’s report

Half of Gandhi Maidan and Central Institutions of Patna will be claimed by Mithila- Patna Pustak Mela 09 seminar on Mithila’s report

Though my talk on 'Uccha shishak vikask lel Mithila rajyk avashyakta' was fixed some 3 months before it took a turn with the Telangana upsurge. See attachment
For me it was a Pradosh fast and after being ready at Patna station I reached Gandhi Maidan where Sudhirji from Arariya and Ratnesh from Delhi came and we decided many things organizationally though from Muzaffarpur Vijay and Shivkumarji could not come being stranded in jam for many hours. Old Dr. LN Jha from saharsa could not come in inclement weather and suggested for well running offices at important places including Patna and Delhi.
For me Patna Pustak Mela(PPM) is a result of incidental meeting with its organizer and proprietor of Novelty & Co. Narendrababu whose father Tarababu(of Dihia,Purnea) was instrumental to the foundation of Chetana samiti;not to confuse him with senior advocate and present speaker of Bihar Legislative council, Tarakant Jha in whose secretarial tenure that Chetna Samiti had grewen too fast;Chetna samiti was in founded by Kavi Yatriji who had Mithila state in his mind during 1950s.
Once Narendrababu came to SAIL Ranchi’s office where Er.KN Jha of Chatra Dumra introduced him with me and then onwards Narendrababu has kept relations with me and in fact I feel he is the living monument of “Maithil relation’ who can tell anyone with whom who is related how and that is his specialty apart from the fact that he spends his most valuable time in maintaining relations with anyone and that was the cause that I use to visit PPM every year and that is the ground of my speech among Patnites Maithils once a year. I exactly didn’t remember while writing this but I l find our from diaries that I started visiting PPM since 2004.
On 12.4.2004- My talk on Muthila rajya was presided over by Abhimany Khan of Bangaon.
On 11.12.2005- My talk on “Education in Mothertongue for Sarva shiksha abhiyan and need of Mithila state,” was presided over by Pt. Tararakant Jha. Prof.Ratneshwar Mishra of Darbahnga also spoke.
In 206, I was transferred to Bangalore and could not come.
On 16.12.2007 I had promised to give atalk on ,”Economic exploitation of Mithila, basis of Mithila state,” but as said I could not come visiting Saharsa and Katihar
On 14.12.2008, Nrendara Babu presided himself when I spoke on,” Philosophical base of Mithila state in honour of late Dr.UC Jha on whom a book is soon going to be published-( for which Narendrababu’s (sister-in law(sari) Prof. Saraswati had hard taunt to Narendrababu to return manuscript- as it was to be released in 2008 and 2009 also passed; I had compeered for a goshthi on him at Ranchi and have collected and corrected proofs of many manuscript on that philosopher of Mithila).
Once I had spoken on economic basis of Mithila state(in 2006 probably)-In 2007 I could not come due to hasty programme in Mithila with Janardan Yadav, ex-MP when around one thousand waited for me to listen when I was crossing Murliganj thinking better to meet many Maithils in Mithila than going to few in Patna’s Mela. Then also Bachha Thakur, ex-IAS was waiting for me and in 2009 also he came to listen to me and welcomed me from hearts and he even left Rameshwar Choudhary’s poetry session for listening to me. Initially Dr. Jagannath Mishra, ex-CM was to preside my lecture but he did not come and Baccha Babu presided over nicely asking Ghamandi Ram, a Maghi poet to stay till I finish and it was the turning point of my unprepared lecture that I dealt with new aspect of Mithila movement as to how it may benefit Magahi and Bhojpuris since they can grow only after Mithila was out or after a democratic movement Maithili will be state language of whole Bihar(which was thwarted by great Rajendra Prasad and Sacchiidanand Sinha in 1940 despite protest by Amarnath jha in school teaching and since then a step-motherly attitude with Mithila and Maithili is continuing.
I warned that half of Gandhi Maidan will be claimed by Mithila(and also area of IIT,IIM etc, as they were genuinely to be in Mithila area).
I said that highest education in world was in Mithila so D Litt is conferred as Vidya Vachaspati and MD as Aayurvigyan Vachaspati even by Kanpur University today.
Gargi and Bhamati represent highest education among women. And thus 4 of six astik (Nyay, sankhya, Vaisheshik, Purvamimansa)and 4 of six nastik philosophies(Buddha was also a Maithil and so Mahavir)
Presently 202 colleges and PG departments in Mithila are in peril and only a statehood can better it.
I dared Nitish Kumar,CM to come for public debate why Bihar not be bifurcated if UP can be tri/quadric-.
Mithila was an independent kingdom till Giyasuddin Tugalaq invaded it in 1328 and demolished our temples and state merged in so called Bihar suba..which should have been Vihar..
I also dealt with genesis of Maithili not from Magadhi prakrit but Mithila prakrit which later Maithili scholar Dr Kamalakant Jha supported.
Ratnesh and sudhir had presented well for Mithila state and so Raghuvir Mochi, ex-director, Maithili Akademy said that Mithila’s demand is genuine but it should have dalits in it(and I am happy to just receive a note from someone that Ramvilas paswan has supported it on TV- I wished long he should come and lead the movement, not wished ever or wish to be CM of Mithila..
Mithila movement is only one of many state movements not run by any politician and hence it is as pure and pious as Mother Sita Herself and who can oppose it(I asked this from Ghamandi babu and others of non-Maithili audience hoping the Bill tabled anytime in Bihar Assembly will have no opposition, if they understand meaning of Ram and Seeta which Vajpayee had anytime told to RSS young to tell Siya Ram, not ShreeRam. Even otherwise capital of less persons will ease Patnites who are overcrowded and polluted now.
I spoke on many aspect but well summarized by Bacchababu and Narendrababu that only as being a Maihtil he could dare a Pustak Mela at Patna..
Yes, Mithila state will be a Mela of knowledge and wisdome not of sands and poverty..if we are poorer why opposition ;we are not rich like Jharkhand,I asked my Maghi and Bhojpuris-I support Bhojpur and Magadh states too but not Vajjika or Angika which will be anchals(commissionaires of Mithila) as they are part and parcel of Mithila culture.
I returned Ranchi with many new introductions like that of Kaushlendra Mishra, Vivekanand Jha. Narendrababu also shown me a book, “Vidyapati Geet Ratnakar,” written by Amarnath Jha living at Puri in Orissa who had his education in Clacutta university. Some 500 paged book is available for Rs. 250 from sanjay K Jha, Vishwa Maithileeyam, 16 B, Madan Chatterjee Lane, Kolkata 700007.
This shows how a Maithil can contribute even being so distant and Amarnath Jha had this stimulation seeing a book on Vidyapati in Bengla in Calcutta,
In the Pustak Mela I saw Grierson’s ‘Mathili Chrystomathy,’ where I could learn that Vidyapati was in fact Bidyapati like Bankim or Rabindra..or Bihar which all symbolizes a difference in pronunciation from Sanskrit though closest to that and in the matter of script Maithili’s daughter script, Oriya has no alphabet of ‘BA.’
There in the Pustak Mela,I could see my class- friend Pramod Jha, FRCS after 1982 whom I reminded that he must have by that time verified that Shachindranath Bakshi was an MLA of Bhartiya jan sangh from Soth Kashi in 1960s or 70s (a friend of Shaheed Bhagat Singh,he was given life imprisonment with batukeshwar Dutta) and knowing that he as per bet must have left communism but no..he did not verify fact and still was a communist at least on a card!
I see a long list of my audience- Chandranath Jha, Shashibhushan Jha, Sanjay K Jha(his amil came in appreciation yesterday), Ashwini Jha, Vinay K Thakur, Arvind Kumar, Raj Kumar Premi, Sanjiv K Jha, Amrendra K Jha, Gabbar Pandey, Manish K Jha, Pranjal, Pravin K Jha, Ramji Prasad, Manju Kumari etc.
I was asked for a bite by Mahashakar of Saubhagya Mithila and on his Pranav’s no to more state I said Pranav is not above Indian Constitution which has ways of state formation.
When this constitution was promulgated there were 14 states and now we are having 28- Telangana may be 29th but why not Mithila before or a second SRC?
Later at Shekhar Prakashan’s stall of Shardinduji(a great Maithili worker and publisher) Kamalkantji’s book Tuggar and sitaram Jha’s Parva nIrnay were released. There too I met many Maihtils though had hardly time to talk. Yet Dr. samrendra was with me whom I talked long in train on phone- his wife was sapana I was knot knowing while I had read her article on health in Mithila darshan.
Ajit Azad tried to give me remuneration of my article on Jeevkant- which I returned him as my subscription to his new magazine, ‘Navarambh’..a good start. I read my article and was surprised really I could write on Jeevakant and justify him as Wordsworth of Maithili!

Kolkata is the Mecca of Maithili Movement(Kolkata meetings Nov.28-29,2009 ).” I am neither a leftist or a rightist but a ‘Maithilist’

Kolkata always excites me for many reasons-it is portal of eastern India I belong and had been most of the part of my time; migrant Maithils had Calcutta, the first destination-one of my uncle was a Vaidya in Kalakar Street till he returned to village; I was married to a Calcutta born Maithil MBBS bride who deserted me and took divorce for no sound reasons; Calcutta had first Medical College and Kolkata is the cheapest city where one can have taste of sweets in few rupees and can have many historic book on the foot paths of College street and so many others that I had some time a fantasy to have lived there.
First I had gone there in 1977 Dec. while going to south first time to serve in the Andhra Cyclone and had been deep in city till Strand Road’s SE Railway office where I was trapped in a lift using first time.
Then I had felt Kolkata ‘a rush’ and that is continued till date however, no one tells us now ‘Hindustani’ which then Bengalis telling us thinking as Hindi speakers.
It took me long to understand that I was not a Hindi speaker rather whole Bengal was my Maithili derivative speaker and when since 1992, I jumped in Maithili movement, I could unfold several pages of our ancestors that ‘Kolkata is the Mecca of Maithili Movement.”

It was Calcutta where Mithilenduji of Habibhaur started Mithila Navyuvak sangh way back in 1930s. He was also working for Maithil Mahasabha started by Darbhanga raj which allowed only Maihtils Brahmins and Karna Kayasthas.
However, when Babu sahib Choudhary of Dularpur(Darbhanga) came he for some instincts, unexplained, enthused by Bengali’s language love probably started a neo-movement collecting all shades of Maithils coming to Girish Park and asking them to join Maithili movement. He was a time -keeper in a private bus and he soon got his friend, also a time-keeper, Devnarayan Jha of Sundarpur( Darbhanga) who was an influential speaker and soon Maithils were united(a bit different from jaipur-Ajmer’rs or Kashi’s who had already lighted candles) and bringing in folds persons like Prof.P.N.Singh and others soon Maithili knocked Sahitya Akademy and that credit goes to Kolkata Maithils that they supplemented Dr.Jaykant Mishra’s wisdom to who had already influenced Nehru in Maihtili’s favour. Kolkata Maithils left no stone unturned influencing Dr.Suniti Kumar Chatturjya, the then President of Sahitya Akademy to have Maithili as one of the languages in 1965.
However Kolkata had already golden page in Maithili’s history where in 1917, Maithili was listed as a subject in MA - thanks to Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee and it could have been due to Babuaji Mishra and one other Thakur(at the moment I am forgetting his name) who were teachers in Calcutta University and fund for the University was provided not by Darbhanga maharaja but by Rajas of Purnea.
I am not intending to write history of Kolkata’s contribution to Maithili which many need many volumes for its completeness rather a link only to my recent visit there during Nov.28-29,2009.
Not that in past I had not such meetings. Many times rather but impressive one was at Muktam Vidya Mandir. Maithils of Kolkata are conscious enough to listen a person like me even then when I was a new comer in this field and hopefully they could judge my work in the intervening years and that was honoured by the garland Ashok Jha,president of Mithila Vikas Parishad offerrd me of fresh Rajanigandhas(so much liked by my ex-wife,Suman) though I feel I am almost like a nagphani(cactus) devoid of the qualities of love and gesture.
Not only I might have been irritating to her- unknowingly even in this meeting I chided a young man not to speak in between when I had already asked them to put questions before I started. He probably can have questions in the end.
In between years I remember once Ashok Jha had organized a press conference for me and might be first time I would have gone on TV due to that.
This time many questions were put before me like what I wanted from Kolkatian Maithils anfd what they would get out of Mithila movement.
Why Tarababu, Baijuji and I are not one platform?
What happened to Maithili teaching in primary schools after writ by Jaikant babu ?
Why Maithili is not spoken in Benipatti regions etc.?

I dealt with the history and necessity of Mithila state in details and said I had no difference with Tarababu or Biju theoretically except of maps(WE in AMP follow Grierson’s a bit enlarged map while Tara bau had left south of Ganga but he had due to his ill health also left the movement in between and is with us in all ways; however with Bbaij we do not agree on making one Mithila(as pre-Sugauli) rather we want Mithila states separately in India and Nepal and further Baijuji’s objectives of Antarrashtriya Maithili sammelan we feel is a copying and fraud when AMP has been doing it since 1993 which was known to him and he could have chosen different words even if he insisted for having such conferences.
AMP has a definite line of action and it is working on village level to build leadership for coming generations.
It was a gala meeting attended by many including- Prof. Shankar Jha(Sajhuar), Ashok Choudhary(Nadiami);Bishnudev Mishra(Sugauna),NK Jha(Ladari),VInay K OPratihast(Hissar),GOPikant Munna(Susali),Vedanand Jha(Navkarhi),Durganand Jha9Baghant),Haribans N.Jha9Paigambarpur),Arun K Jha9Bithauli),Anjay K,Ch.(Jhituki),Jaykrishna ‘Jagat’(Tumaul),Gaurishankar Jha(Damodarpur),Raghunath Ch.(Chahuta0, Ashok K Jha(Loha),S Jha(Barha), A Jha (Barha famous as Netaji somebody had told me in the way while I was asking for his 243, Rabindra Sarni), Vijay Jha(Jajuar), Basukinath Jha(Dulha), Shailendra pathak(Koili Nanpur,Sitamarhi),Satishchandra Jha(Tumaul), Anhay Rai(who signed in Tirhuta of Pariharpur), Premchand Jha(Lagma goimishra0, Vinay Bhushan Thakur(Barhser,Saharsa).
The list gave me remembrance of most of the villages I could see during my Mihtila Jagaran yatra.
I asked them not to think for return from Mithila but as Maithiliputra they should do work for Mithila supplying posters and pamphlets for enumerating Maithili in Census 2011 and for Mithila state. They should give time for Mithila adopting a district or two on the eastern borders or southern boarders pf Mithila which is receding by exploiters on different names.
I said that Maithili teaching etc. can only be done to the satisfaction once Mithila is a state.
I am nether a leftist or a rightist but a ‘Maithilist’ now and I feel regionalism for developing least developed region is the best way of nationalism though I work for National medicos Organisation nationally as well.
It was late and Basuki babu, Vijay and Shailendra were with me in Metro till Kalighat and they had made a social service organization for which I will spare a day any time in future.
Next day too, young Vijay and Shailendra had come to Pradeep Choudhary(AMP, Kokata Secretary’) software office (where I was busy whole day in making a blog on wordpress, on the Username: maithiliparishad at http://wordpress.com
And so I could not go to the rsodence of Sudhakar Jha,ex-ED,SAIL where I had to reside that night nor I could go to meet ailing mother of Prakash N.Jha of Purnea, a veteran Maihtili worker nor I could go to pay my condolences to Mrs Sujit Dhar for demise of Dr. Sujit Dhar, the former National president of NMO.

Next day I was busy as editor of a medical journal in II Assembly of Medical editors of India about which I will write some day but saw Salt Lake City and Science City first time.
In the evening there was as said a meeting in Pradeep’s office where Shailendra,Vijay, reetesh, Mukesh,Rajesh were also present. A meeting with youth filling the quorum of previous meeting. Old guards were restive that Maithili movement in Kolkata will die but no there are young.
And while in bus to Howrah, I met one Mahesh Rai of Ghanshympur leaving in Uttarpada and he promised to work-a coincidence again if it happens so .
I purchased Jagaran, Rajathan patrika where news had appeared, already pradeep had give me Viswmitra(scans will be loaded afterwards) of previous days meeting.
In train took my meal after pradosh packed by Pooja, Pradeep’s wife who had lost her father recently. In the bus from Saltlake I had taken ground nits and in the way to golf club office 3 bananas(which are not so cheap there).
I could reach in time despite Naxal bund reached Ranchi in time.

Dhamiyapatti camp २००९ Jaynagar train Niyamit करू;Darbhangias need learning much more in the field of social change in मिथिला; Journey as luggage in a luggage van

As informed on phone by Dr. Kamalkant Jha on 4th November 32 trainees were awarded certificate by the chief guest Shrikant Mishra, a retired teacher from Rourkela who had attended IV International Maithili Conference ( Dec. 27-28, 1997) there. It was one of the most successful Maithili camps amid 18 such(19th will be at Burari, Delhi, Dec.22 evening to Dec.25th afternoon).

I had to inaugurate Dhamiyapatti camp 2009 on 26th October but because of post- Chhati slugginess of local workers and postponement of Mithila Vidayrthi Parishad’s meeting at Saharsa (due to same reason) to Jan.23-24, I became free on Nov.1-2 and asked for a change for avoiding weekly travel which they happily agreed as they had no preparation as well.

AMP works on grass root level and I am famous for my visits to villages- on foot or cycle or motor cycle and surely such work has given me true honour and if I quote one of them on November 2, 2009 morning by Naresh Thakur, the Mukhiya of Dhamiyapatti( near Jayanagar) presenting me as a traditional bidai of jora dhotis, dupatta , janeu-suparis..though despite their several requests I did not take dhotis was not it a bidai from hearts in the heart of Mithila by a Maithil who is a comrade, and follower of Bhogendra Jha despite my clear utterances of non-Marxist ethos in my inaugural speech and at a time when Patna and Darbhanga Maithils were busy as if in toing to political leaders in Vidyapati Parvas for which they feel the persons like me as untouchables.

The progress of Mithila will be through the ekpedias of such villages I had said rather big Rajpaths though I never say that work is not necessary there and had even an occasion in return journey to send Maithili Sandesh with a fellow passenger in Patna intercity when a call from Mumbai’s Chakradhar Jha came that he could meet Bishwambhar Jha ex-GM,HEC leaving at Ranchi(whom I had phoned just to inform him that Vidyapati Smriti Divas will be at AMP, Jharkhand office on 31st November and he was at Mumbai. I asked my fellow passenger Umesh Jha of Kaithahi village, of Madhubani working at Bandre(Mumbai) 09833293860 to contact Chakradhar Jha whom I am yet to see (he was referred to me by Dr.A. Jha for AMP work.

It is not that I had this first coincidence even in Mumbai once I had requested a Kurla ticket booking clerk to take up work and other time, a senior Maithil when I was honoured in a Mumbai meeting in 2007, on the third anniversary of Mithila Darpan.
Long back I had a meeting with all important Maithili organizations at the house of Sitaram Jha, ex-Income Tax Commissioner who was a supporter of Mithila State. I talked him introducing him with Naresh jha and wished 2010 Dec. XXII International Maithili Conference at Mumbai, if he proposes it at Kanpur on Dec.20-21 in XX International conference.
Intention of holding Maithili conferences one outside and other in Mithila is that Maithils are everywhere who need organized but they should also work for their village area in Mithila and should also save some amount for work in Mithila(which is now 75 % saving) while the delegates will go on their own expense.

We are aware of the fact that work in Mithila is more important and hence we regularly conduct such conference ,once preferably in summer in Mithila where many of our Maithils living in Mithila who are poor and for whom going out of Mithila is difficult may also attend.(XXI International Maithili Conference will be in Araria district on April 11-12,2010).

The journey to Jaynagar from Ranchi in a special train was special. The train on some schedule dates could be started after my talk with ADRM MK Yadav this time which had only II Class coaches, not a single sleeper though on previous occasions it had sleeper ads well as III AC coaches.

The railways informed that it was a trail train and in a lean period they thought proper to have trial and that too on a sudden information. The railways could have thus even after two, if not after a clear three months advance notice( as per for any reservation).
Many young workers like Arun Jha of Maithili Manch, also worked seriously and even they had burnt effigies of the Mamta. Arun was to see off his mother from the same train and was rightly very much agitated that Howrah intercity was started without any trail and so for Ptna Janshatabdi will …
I feel trial train concept singularly applied to Mithila bound train was unjustified and it was as if ‘agni pariksha of Maithili Seeta herself.” The same I told to the reporter of the Rastriya Sahara while educating public for pressurizing the authorities for continuing the train.
When I was about to start my journey, a student, Rishikesh Paswan after talking me on phone to come and study with free boarding and lodging at my house preparing for Pre-medical test reached Ranchi in my hospital library with his father and one more relative but did not go to my residence to ( a ‘creamy layer effect’ probably). Other student in my house on the same scheme Umesh Mandal preferred to fill up suddenly announced examination at Darbhanga and we could find PAK Pandit, an old worker from Baira- Parsa who had organized one of such camps and we went sleeping in general coach which had come with full rush.

From Barauni a family of young joined from Munger, who initially promised to work for Maihtili.I also phoned a doctor Raman there for my meeting on 15th Nov. His wife was from Barauni and her brother was with them. In the end she divulged that they were Christians.

When I said her that I read The New Testament for I had love with a fellow Keralaian girl. She asked me what would have happened after marriage- ‘We both could pursue our religions; for child the matter would have to decide.

She was looking like a Hindu bride with sindoor. I had given her brother some copies of Maithili Sandesh to give it our worker Anil of Dalsing Sarai where he used to teach.

Dalsing Sarai is the place where AMP has good work and all segments of society are well represented- thanks to Satyanarayan Mahto of Ajnaul who worked at Bhalai, I had been to Aajnaul in such a training camp also.

It was its last ride and hence we put slogans- Jaynagar train Niyamit karu at Darbhanga station where many public, including my sister’s husband, joined us and the same at Jaynagar. We were distinct with the banner of AMP. Umesh and Pandit took signatures of many while in train for the continuance of train.

While in the way I recalled my sister’s village and mine where I could not go like other Mithila Jagaran Yatra(probably it I was 54th such). I saw with reverence Ugna Mahadev temple from where I had my cycle yatra for Mithila state in 1994 and had attended such a camp in 2003. I saw Madhubani Bhauragarhi’s Guheshwari Mandir where I wish some time to offer Durga path all 9 days of a Navaratra combining with meetings around.
I got down from the train and purchased a copy of daily Mithila Samad from Kolkata which was 2 days old though last time I had got same days’ copy(in return journey due to rush in train I could not get down for it.).

I had phoned some of students and guardians to join Dhamiyapatti camp. One such student’s father Chandrabhushan Choudhary from Biraul joined us at Jayangar(who completed training and was happy as he talked me after returning) and also Subhash Jha, coordinator Laknaur block,AMP(who was present for two days but could not complete the camp but has become a solid worker as I presume on telephonic talks).

Anand of Jhanjharpur already changed train Dhuriyan to ours at Pandaul, my nearest station,in childhood my trip to Forbesganj was from there.

In the train a postman of Pandaul, Krishnmohan jha said he would work for Mithila.

AMP President, Dr.Kamalkant jha was there to welcome with Prof. Umesh Jha’Lalan’ from Marari(Nepal). And Nabonath Jha ‘Vivek’,Kalikapur.

I could have introduction with Lalit Thakur ,brother of Ashok Thakur, a Maithili writer of Badagaon.
It was a difficult trekker journey to Dhamiyapatti’s very bad road. The driver was expert and he drove like circus and on reaching safely, we thanked God.
Before entering devasthan, I saw the bricks soiling tube well had mark of Mithila Bhattha which I cited in my speech that love for Mithila is embossed in their hearts, our duty is to ignite it to come on surface only.
So the temple, very nicely made, spacious and clean ,rarely seen in Mithila had many villagers who had stamped Mithila in their hearts.
Young Manoj Jha was coordinator and Mukhiya Nareshji presided.

Because I have to leave next morning, I made a long speech covering all aspects of Maithili and Mithila’s development. Umeshji had informed about devilments in Nepal for a separate Mithila state there which I have been asking from the beginning. Many Nepali Maithils like Shaheed Dr.LK Jha, Sundar Jha ‘Shastri’etc.
He narrated how he as AMP’s Gen. Secretary could initiate Maithili as working language of in Nepal’s Sirha,Dhanush zilla’s official work and risked at life by opposing even Supreme Court’s orders.

After meeting reached Bhav Jha from Benipatti’s Mahmmadpur(Shardapuri)-he was late because of bike’s problem.

At night we had traditional Mithila dinnar (bhoj) in Mukhiyaji’s house with Tarua etc.with Bhojan Mantra by Kamalkantji.

We had long discussions. Umeshji remembered even more than I recall about my initial visit to Mithila and Nepal’s, meeting Matrika Pd. Koirala, etc.

We could decide fiture camps 13-16 March 2010-Biraul(Darbhanga); 27-30 March 2010 Madhepur-Lakhnaur; 8-11 May 2010,Benipatti-Mahammadpur. In such camps of sub divisional level, one from every panchyat of the camp holding block and one from other blocks will be targeted to take training.

In the early morning I preferred to go open field defecation without giving troble to our host. I did my daily snan-Puja tarpan etc. and soon a journalist came to interview. It was again a mini meeting and then bidai.
Bhav Jha’s grandson gave me a lift to Jaynagar. Anand and his brother went on foot and met in the way.
At Jaynagar railway crossing there was a huge crowd and I purchased paniphal singhara from a selling women. One women was crying there- her 12 year old girl was missing. She other smaller girls were with her. Maybe she was her grandmother and mother might have died. I was very sorry and wanted to give her some money but hesitated. I was suspicious that the girl of Harlakhi might have been abducted for trafficking.

In the meantime Anand reached and said there was such a report in papers. I was sorry that some NGO should have been there.
People have so much faith on Kamla mai..may that girl reaches Harlakhi.
I could charge my mobile in passenger hall, good one but dirty die to many passengers.
I had purchased advance ticket previous day. Anand and one other young Maithili purchased their tickets.
I asked Anand to purchase from the bookstall , Maithili Durgapothi. Previous evening I had purchased Samy Sal, Mithila Darshan(from Kolkata) and Satynaryan Puja’s Maithilipothi.
Rastriya Sahara had well covered न्यूज़।Though after two days Jagtaran had also published न्यूज़. and particulary after the coclusion of camp Hindustan had published न्यूज़। with photographs of trainees taking certificate those are not available to me yet.)
There was huge rush. A young boy had come with many family members from Sitamarhi’s Bhutahi village for Kamlasnan-I was sorry that despite having time I could not plan. Other passenger, an owner of petrol pump at village Padma was sore that in one of bhoj they were not taken care of because of invitees more than could be managed. Other person in Dhoti was incidentally from Dhamiyaptti. He was going for bhumipujan of a hotel at Bela, Darbhanga. His dhoti had earned a name in Gujarat – His daughter in-law said that the security guard was exclaimed how any person could wear such long cloth(when that had fallen from upper floor).
When he went Mumbai he met Samprada Babu of Alkem. He was initially hesitant to meet but knowing that from the peon Samprada Babu called him with respect.
I again crossed Sakri but without meeting my sister nearby. At Darbhanga came Nareshji with a heavy bag for Ranchi. I took only few things as I do not want to carry heavy baggage.

When I came out of train for washing my hands and drinking water(I feel supplied water is better than bottled on scientific counts also and also I do not want misusing money for that) suddenly I saw Manjar Suleman, a Maithili writer there and called him for giving company. He was to go to Patna. It was hot and humid in November .He exclaimed,’ global warming’ and went out for reprieve. He returned with other professor of Urdu at Samastipur College, Md.Anis. I had talked him last year too and had reminded Manjar for calling a Maithil Muslim Conference, discussion on Maithili-Urdu similarities and role of Muslims in Mithila Movement will be discussed (likely date Feb.27,2010 at Darbhanga. I recalled my friend Mustaq of Hayaghat Bilaspur.

At Samastipur no one came to take Maithili Sandesh which I gave for Mumbai to fellow Maithil passenger (and as I had talk with CK Jha on 6.11.2009 he would deliver that to him on 7th November-I wish he becomes a worker for AMP also which will be again a leaf in my coincident meets turning to permanent worker).

At Barauni, I got down and went outside but no one trekker was going ahead Simaria because of Gangasnan Mela. I came back and was waiting for Maurya Express but first came late Ballia -Sealdah express and I got into one coach and could find space to sit on upper portion for luggage but soon was asked by other young person saying,’ Uncle that is my seat.’ I got down saying as to why he was calling me ‘uncle’ (and not accommodating I meant but he replied for my age he called thus. I thanked for giving such respect to age and came standing for 4 hours till Jasidih. I watched the unprecedented rush, people like ants, mostly ladies assembled for Gangasnan at Simariaghat station. They had no space other than tracks to seat. I recalled my memory that in old days only at Hazipur it was famous where I did not go with my classmates in medical college as I had not much money any time in my pockets. May be every river is filled with persons, I was said thus for Gaunsa Ghat before Darbhanga on river Jibachh and also I saw rush at Luckheesarai and Kiul stations who had come to dip in river Kiul.

At Kiul our train was overtaken by Guwahati Express and though my desired train for Ranchi, Patliputra Express had just left before at Jamui,I lost hope but soon Ballia overtook that and first I thought to standing till Chittarnajan so that Patli might shed its weight at Jasidih but one passenger adviced me to get down at Jasidih itself.

In the meantime at Jhajha many Maithil persons could enter the train- old women were also with them and they were talking in Maihtili which tempted me for introduction. I asked one such Maithil pilgim his village which he replied ,”Benipur.” I asked him if he knew Pawan Thakur of Majhaura. He replied affirmatively.

I opened my bag and took out one copy of Maithili Sandesh and half folding that I asked him to take showing DurgaMata’s Aarati Though he could have read the title and at least seen the photo of Durgamata he refused in a bad manner. I could not keep patience and I said,”yaih tirthyatra jait chee..anha san ekara badle me mangne nahee chhalanhu. Anhak ot jayab t’ 500 lok jama bhay jetah hamra snuay, Pawnji kahbainhi Dhanakar Thakur train me chhalathi” He kept mum though was not apologetic.

After some minutes with the same Maithili Sandesh, I touched the other passenger(who had suggested me to get down at Jasidih) sitting on floor of the compartment He was dozing but opened eyes and took that and also read some lines of all pages. Then I asked his home and address – He was Ramvilas sah from Sahebpur Kamal(where my bhauji’s father was an agriculture officer in 1970s when as a student I had visited the place before crossing Ganga to go to Munger to attend one RSS camp for a month)., Ramvilas worked at Kolkata and he gave me his number and I also gave him AMP,Kolkata worker, Pradeep Chaudhary’s number(in the hope of other coincidentally made Maithili worker).
I also felt that this ‘ego’ was the cause that many Maithili Brahmins became obstacle to Maithili’s development though they talked in Maithili and further the sense of reading any pamphlet was more in the public of Begusarai which I had experienced in 1992 itself when I had distributed first Maithili pamphlet,”Jagu Maithil Dhir..”

I know I am a great pamphleteer of that region and the area of Teghra- Baruni I feel is the central to Mithila and I had told Manjar thus while crossing that would be best for Mithila’s Capital which seeing the sensitivity of two Maithils of the above example also suggest that Darbhangias need learning much more in the field of social change in Mithila.
At Jasidih, I ate what my sister had sent and waited for Patli. Somebody was there with cricket result of Indo-Aussi match. In stead Mithila express was announced to come where some young person was also waiting. I could not decipher from the announcement whether it had been advanced somewhere ahead of Raxaul too- listening to he said ‘Upto Raxaul.” When I again reminded him for some word,”the young person, maybe a sales representative in some caompany,”Ham bahre nahee hain..”
What amount of tension the man had who was talking someone on mobile sometime back to transfer some amount for tickets if he would accompany him to Shirdi…Probably such agitated persons need the solace of godly place.
Then Patali came and it has now non-gazetted employees’ rally rush going to capital Ranchi.
Every centre want Mithila’s capital forgetting Capital is a place of such nonsense rallies. Ranchi remains band often.
Anyway I was about to inform my sister that I was leaving the train to get Maurya after one hour that I saw luggage van was being opened. With many passengers I also entered and took a corner, spread my chaddar to sleep. Fellow passenger was also exclaimed as to why rally in Presidents’ rule?
Somebody thought door be opened and at Madhupur many leaders rushed into and I had to fold my legs.
They went in search of better place at Dhanbad but I remained there with many. Some students entered and they were talking that they were thinking Army recruitments were honest but that was most corrupt- 80 per cent on pairavi and paisa and only 20 per cent might get job on merit. They were saying doctors are making someone unfit and for each clause charging Rs.20,000 for declaring fit. I recalled CRPF personnels’ health check up I finally marked in 2007, many were colour blind who must have paid at the entry. They did try to pressurize me but I did not succumb(and had remarked against their boss also! Though he was not color blind, he had advance disease! I did not make him fit but I do not know what doctor controlling my hospital did!).
Finally I reached Ranchi as a luggage himself in a luggage van- not a bad experience. Only point was one has to hold urine despite cold temparatue as train ascended high(Ranchi 629 mt. high from Median Sea Level(MSL) compared to Mithila is some 50 Meter only- Jasidih must be higher but even Muri is 200 meter lower to Ranchi.
Many did urinate from the wide door whenever train stopped but I recalled Udayshankar Mishra had said a quote prevalent in Mithila, “Peshab roke Jogi, Paikhana roke Rogi.”I will not comment medically on it but I could somehow hold it despite I had drank water at Jasidih.

Dilli yatra : Any stranger’s coming to stranger’s house

First time I visited Dilli probably sometimes in 1978/79 with the Shikshik jagaran Jyoti of JP.
And then for various causes related to NMO till 2002,any other work was subsidiary to that except for once when I had gone there to be in a delegation to meet Vajpayee for the inclusion of Maithili in April 2000 but Vajpayee all of sudden became sick and I returned. Despite application of leaves, I was put in a health centre as a punishment which I did not and had to take 21 days leave when I could rejoin my post. I did not like any pairavi though I was knowing a couple of ministers personally in Vajpayee Govt.

Delhi is our national capital and if anybody want some work of national scale that person needs visiting Delhi.

I feel personally it is not fit for our capital on many counts probably developing a new capital , computerized and of small scale in the vicinity of Jabalpur will be fitter yet Delhi is capital I need going there and I may relocate myself, if I continue in my Maihtili and NMO work as of now.
Every Dilli trip is a memorable one but let me write something about most recent one.
Some times back an ex-employee of SAIL and my villager karnaji came to me for some drugs. I have been intimate to him for many years I work for MECON-SAIL.

I asked him whether he would rejoin any service after his retirement. He saud that he does not intend so and then I offered him to work for Antarrashtriya Maithili Parishad(AMP) which he happily agreed.
I had already decided to attend Faridabad’s Kali Puja organized by Mithila Navyuvak Sangh and Sarita Vihar’s Kali Puja organized by Raman Jha of Bihar Sahyog samiti which have become my perennial affair .
I wished a meeting at Karnji’s house in Dwarka which he agreed happily. It was almost a deepawali Milan for a new settler in delhi. He had been there only a few days back with bag and baggage and I had not his new number and hence when I informed on group e-mail of Maihtils that I was coming an unknown Maithil journalist from Dwarka had replied. Without knowing his village and age and profession I requested him to go to harnaji’s house . He went there and also mailed me details about himself. He was a journalist interested in scince and religion, a topic I too like to discuss with. I thought if I stay there it would be doubly benefial as it has been my habit to stay with potential social workers(of NMO or AMP) and to visit there house to be intimate with them.
This looks awkward to many and any suspicious person will smell something different. It happened this time so. Though the young Maithil (not so younger but younger to me) was very open in his reception one of his intimate, a very senior person indeed, an IPS to say was suspicious of any stranger’s coming to stranger’s house. It was then when that person was aware of that I was a qualified doctor and has also listened to my name connected to Mithila movement(I believe, if not boast, that hardly any intellectual Maihtil would not have a reference to my work of Mithila and so among doctors with nationalistic feelings for the medical work rendered through national medicos organization(NMO).

Yet, his suspicion was not wrong after all he belonged to that department but my host was also a suchha Maithil with a faith in Mithila’s tradition- he told him,”He will put a lock,if suspected in night.”

Well, God saved me from locks! My younger brother became suddenly ill and I had to drop the connecting train at Mugalsarai for Varansi and then I came back by Mahanagari express for Allahabad. In the process, from my brother I could get number of DRM, Railways Jhaji from Mohna village near Jhanjharpur and invited him for attending ensuing XX International Maihtili conference at Kanpur(Dec.20-21). My nephews(students of NIT,Jamshedpur and LTM Medical College,Mumbai with their mother had also been at Varanasi to see my brother who had an overdose of antihypertensive drug and had almost recovered.

At Allahabad soon I got Ajmer bound superfast and at Kapur Premkant Jha was waiting for me for discussing matters related to Maithili Conference. That was a Deepawali evening and I saw Deepawali of many towns and villages I crossed.

The train Unchahar express was almost vacant and I was surprised to find a lady TTE on duty that night! There was an old passenger coming from Namisharanya and I talked with him in Sanskrit. He could speak chaste Sanskrit and was pleased to meet me and was surprised to know that I was an MD; probably he was not aware that Swami Shivananda was also a doctor!

Till Fafund, one passenger listened to my talks attentively and when that old man asked his profession and I told guessing his fitness in police(though he was in civil dress), they were further surprised.

In the meantime my host queried where I was and knowing that I would be reaching in morning he might have taken a sigh of relief!

I was also enquired by Kripanand as to where I was and I was staying with him after Dr. lal Chandra left the same Mayur Vihar. Before that Lal Chandra’s Lady Hardinge’s quarters were my halting station and I remember many years back when NMO was not rooted in delhi once I had slept on the grounds of Smt. Sucheta Kripalani Hospital.

Anyway this time I replied Kripanand not to bother but come to Dwarka meeting directly. From Dilli to New Delhi I came by a train and then took Metroride for Dwarka, The booking girl was very polite and asked me to be sure of the Scetor and I asked my host for that and reached there by a Metrofeeder mininus. While I was waiting for that a rickshaw pullar I guessed rom Mithila and he was from Begusarai.

My host received me and welcomed me. Not only he was from the village of legendary MM Umesh Mishara and his illustrious sons(late Jaikant Mishra most known face among them), his wife was from my neighbourhood village, in fact she was so much excited in Atithi from her area that she forgot to look after milk and I went into kitchen after many years to switch off the gas!

Then we went for meeting where many Maihtils were unknown to each othr and I too saw many faces first ime who all promised for AMP work at Delhi. I was surprised to see Bihar Lok manch’s souvenir which was managed by almost entirely Maithils(later I counted only 123 out of 1001 members were looked to me non_maithils!- That souvenir on my table attracted the attention of a Maithil lady for a uniqe photograph of Devi Durga and took that for painting. Every Maithil women is a painter- ‘Aripan’ is an art to testify them!).

The official of Bihar Lok manch informed that when it was fiunded Shri Mantreshwar Jha ,IAS and seniors like him named that organization so on Bihar! I am not surprised that such person bagged a Maithili award!

This double life our seniors have been living.

See what others are doing.Today’s results of Raj Thakre’s MNS who is neither having Hindu ideology nor so called secular Indian but they triumph.

There in the meeting was Ghanshyam who happily agreed for a Maithili workers camp at Burari (Dec.22-25). I cold see him after a long tome. He had been a close confide of mine while I was at Bangalore in posting, he was working for Youth of Mithila.

Youth of Mithila should awake! There awakening will be in the interest of nation. Anil Sah, a young Maithil I saw first him on 2.11.2005 in a Sarita Vihar kali Puja function is still in regular contact with me and had been with me in recent Yatra of Mithila. He was made Secretary of Dilli State, AMP.

With Kripanand I was again on bike to reach sarita Vihar where I talked with a malled group this year of Maithil youth. Again Maithils are pillars there but are mesmerized for word Bihar which has no real entity but was thwarted upon us dismembering Mithila by Mohammad Giyasuddin Tugalaque in 1328.

When I spoke this in my address at Mithila Navyuvak sangh,Faridabad’s mammoth gathering of 5000+ persons, the chief guest Staleja , a councilor 0f BJP, donating 1.51 lakh rupees for kalisthan mandap, repeated this that Mithila statehood is a must and Maithila(and Bhojpuri san Faridabad, Mumbai will have industrial zero- Raj Thakre should note that!).

Last year Cong(I) MP, AICC Secretary, RC Khuntia had echoed that, Every language needs state, demand of Mihtila state is genuine.”

My visit to faridabad started inconsequentially when someone on 9.7.2001 invited me to come while I had gone to sangam Vihar’s new office of AB Mithila sangh. Late Bhogendra Jha, ex-MP was there who had criticized to Chhati and mool gotra etc. on a Marxian vein which I had criticized severely and the Maithils appreciated me.

On someone’s invitation 15.11.2001 I was there and was welcomed by Amarath Jha ‘a’(among many amaranths). And then onwards I have been visiting there and am honoured by them by heart.

In 2002, Devendra yadav, MP spoke so much that we could not have time(though I was willing to say that thanks Maithil’s grace that you who in April 2000 had refused to sign on a Memorundum for Maihtili recognition when I had chided him strongly, had come to Maithili Darbar!)

In In 2003 I could not go there.

On 11.11.2004 I was there(probany my friend of ABVP days. Ex-Minister, maybe Ravishankar Prasad was exclaimed to find me there so far from Mithila).

On 2.11.2005, Rajiv shukla, Cong MP was there and took my notes on Mithila state

On 22.11.2006, I came from Bangalore and chief guest Ranjit Ranja, MP,LJP, repeated my voices in her speech calling me thrice’our guardian from Bangalore,”

In 2007, I was confused after a tiring car journey from Bangalore to Ranchi and while in way at Gaya I could know that the function was on the same day and I missed.

It was 19th kalipuja celebration and I could attend 7th time. I might not have gone this year had not a villager at Sijhouliya, Phulparas spotted me in his village that he had seen me at faridabad and had stressed again to come.

Gradually I think,I should concentrate my leaves in Mithila for movement but sure such gatherings of Maithils can contribute a lot. And among all Dehi/NCR has a potential role .

Again on high speed drive with Kripanand, carrying Mother Kali’s beautifully framed portrait, we reached sarita Vihar where Puja has been turned to orchestra party leaving guests addressal which we were giving in initial years! Probably small is beautiful! Kripanand left me at New delhi station and I went to my berth in last train towards east Reanchal express) which left in time and reached Allahabad in time.

We went to Anil’s shouse for dinner and he packed so much sattu that taking that next morning at Allahabad I had no idea that sattu with water will swell too much and I could not eat that and gave part of that to a poor boy in Lal Quila express!

Anyway it was not my desire like Ayrangjen’s father Shajenha to take one grain”Sattu” when he was imprisoned by son. And one work’, -to teach students;

-listening to which son retorted-“Grown old but hukumat karne ki tammanna nahi gayee.”

Maybe youth I like so but two youths were at hot words on the question of putting Kali portrait in Lal Quila express anad other of Dehri (who had his friend TTE for Rs.10 each day journey without ticket) in Ranchi bound intercity from Mugalsarai in sleeper coach. Of course I found a young Dubey ,CA, working for IFFCO who took interest in my talks on various points.

Of course in Lal Quila when one Inspector Police traveling of course without ticket asked me who should have been best PM,if not VP,Rajiv, Nehru,I quipped me( in past life I might have been subas and in present life am better and more knowledgeable and honest than those numerated and that person having praise for VP,Mayavati had a tight lip!)

When I got down at Ranchi and reached house safely with photo I took a sigh of relief and forgot what many things happened in train.(0r will happen tomorrow..in train.. which has become my house living with strangers with a faith unseen and many of them have become my friends and some in close social work with me.

On permitting friends of opposite sexes in hostels

On permitting friends of opposite sexes in hostels
One may have some impact on generational shift but while co-education has been welcomed by the society, co-habitation is not seen on the same line. Every society has its own value/ Laxman Rekha and any institution runs as per its norms. While such an advice may remove some angularities, it may add some unwanted and maybe adding to a few more cases of serious problems(including ‘suicides’).
Whether whole day meeting in libraries and college rooms are not enough that visiting hostels still needed?(Do not be mistaken I also had visited my girl class friend’s hostel’s visiting room- now she is a roaring practitioner of her locality, but let me say had we gone more closer, I might have to find Vivekanada rock even earlier. Remember once such friend do not comply to other’s emotion, she is like a rock herself!
Ours is not a permissive society and TV mediated soaps offering such models will increase rift in friendship and more failures in marriage than pleading for ‘openness.’
I recall in an episode of AIDS International Congress. In 1992,when I almost chided Nalini Singh, the media person, ’Chairing the session you should not prophesize distribution of condoms over ethical norms,’ when some Bangalorean Mod –Women activists had objected to me saying,” As mother in law we will give condoms to our daughter in laws.”
Hostel visiting of friends of other sex need some prohibitions and institutions should take care of that as per their norm.

Suicide is the greatest crime because it makes any crime to be done impossible- Students should evolve self help group to reduce rate of suicide

Today I came across a blog. Nicely written on increasing suicidal tendency in higher institutes. The generational change in attitude is ok but one must remember that this (Hindu)civilization of ours in too old to say precisely and we have to remember that the answers to many maladies rest more going away from the 'norms' than 'sticking' with some of them.
Let me exemplify it. Only yesterday I read in a Hindi daily(Hindustan) that a doctor son( Jha)of a senior officer Jha committed suicide in a Ranchi Ashok ashram apartment for his failure in marriage with a daughter of other senior Maithil officer working in Delhi with whom a divorce petition was pending on court for judgement.
Apart from titles that they are from my Maithil Brahmin clan, I do not know them bit share a point with the victim that when I had my failure in marriage in 1989,with my lovely MBBS wife who thought I would earn; I wanted to commit suicide and place and mode too I had decided,’ to jump in sea from the rocks of Vivekanand Rock,Kanyakumari," (I had collected in 1963 when I was only 8 years old, some money by selling 10 paise stamps at my home town, Forbesganj on Indo-Nepal border, where probably Jaya too had studied)for which like a squirrel for putting some sands bringing on her body when Ramsetu was being made). I thought to write my views as ’ suicidal note' my autobiography (though written those 169 pages then and due to Advani's PS Chopra's saying of protocol of 15 days when Advani was DYPM, it could not be released and in 'suspended animation' that 'The Autobiography of an Unknown Medico' is enlarged to 368 pages with no publisher).
If a boy is given a 'constructive mould' suicide can be decreased.
After all why hankering for IITs itself! When we were students (in 1970 I had SSC) I was not aware of IIT. Modern IT has widened the awareness. Whether it has also not increased ‘ rat race' for physical things.
Unless the modern advances are joined with the 'spiritual satiety' crimes of every type will increase including 'suicide',(which according to a great philosopher Chesterton, a friend of G. Bernard Shaw, "is the greatest crime because it makes any crime to be done impossible)"
Therefore one should train is/her child to(and first himself/herself) to be satisfied with whatever results or things could have.
Then the intellectual objection will be that without competition progress will be halted. Well, one should be therefore trained for 'healthy competition' like games.
And finally, there are some ‘ suicidal trailts' ,I feel genetically endowed too which needs taking consultations from trained psychiatrists(or mature persons and friends).
If any boy/girl says 'wants to commit suicide' he/she needs immediate treatment with antidepressant drugs. Any such uttering should be taken seriously.

As a doctor I face such cases and know in the vicinity of Shyamali colony(where in famous schools such case are not infrequent. So much so that one of my senior friend, a retired GM of SAIL, RN Chatterjee had for long taken the project of counselling of such students. One of the causes of such cases are guardians high expectations. True, in this colony where scores of IITians/BITians(in previous days BIT Sindri and or Mesra had almost equal and even better reputation than IITs when they were in their infancy) work forget that even if they were ‘toppers’, among the new students of such high reputed schools will have only one ‘topper’.
And every son is not like Syma Prasad(of Asutosh Mukherjee) or Amarnath Jha( of Ganganath Jha) or Damodar Thakur(of Pushkar Thakur). Whether intelligence has any relation to genes. Human Genome Projects said ‘No,’ but I had doubt and in one of medical conferences, famous Indian geneticist, Dr. Das Gupta, was non-committal on my query and now some papers are coming that this does have relations.

In 1977, I had visited Vashishtha Narayan, topper of Higher Seconday in Bihar who was then famous mathematician and was admitted under the care of Dr. Davis, at Kanke ,Ranchi. I asked Dr. Davis relationship between ‘intelligence and insanity.” He explained something then beyond the scope of a IV Year MBBS student but he appreciated me. He told me that Vashishtha ill health has a bearing from his failed marriage (with a lady from maybe some high up, he himself was a son of policeman and could get into Netarhat School).
While returning from Kanke, I went to meet Dr. H.C. Mishra(of Jaya’ neighbourhood, Gosaigaon village) . He had been very affectionate to me since my ISc days and he even had corrected my notes on Air, water, etc. Dr. Mishra told me that Vashishtha’s problembs were due to high expectations from him (Vashishtha had joined ISI but could not produce the required number of research papers).
Then I asked the same question from Dr.KC Prasad, just retired now as HOD, Mathematics, Ranchi University. He told me that when Vashishtha was admitted in the Science College,Patna(then aspiration for any brilliant student of Bihar- I too got an opportunity but could not take admission due to several abscesses in body) Vashishtha was allotted a room in the Faraday House there besides his. That year MSc batch was not good enough and once the famous teacher, Narendra Nath asked some problem which could not be solved by MSc students. He had just other class in BSc I and he put the same problem which was solved by Vashishtha. Pleased Narendra Nath recommended Vashishtha’s name for special Honours examination ; University did so arrange only for him; he was spared of pass subjects’ papers of chemistry and physics; Narendra Nath used to come to hostel to guide Vashishtha for Math (Hons) papers and he got honours and then went abroad and then the story of joining ISI, marriage with a Bengali girl(probably) coming from an aristocratic family and his mental breakdown!
So what was the cause- his genes, his sudden uplift in academics, his failures in expectations from ISI or failure in marriage by accomplished wife- one or some of them or all!
Probably all have contributed.
See the change in society in one generation. For some 20 years, Science College did not remain Mecca for brilliants- it became CBSE DAV/DPS.
Guardians aspired more than students for their child to join IIT. IIT coaching has been a 500 crore rupees industry- more famous than Kota cement. ( Now they will turn to +2 80 percentile business!)
Prof. Yashpal was saying yesterday on TV that Indian IITs should diversify to attract talents other than from coaching group and so 80 percentile has been said(not per cent but top 20 per cent students of any board can appear for IITs). Kapil Sibbal has to refrain after Nitish wrote a letter that 80 per cent marks will obstruct rural Biharis to enter into. I feel Bihar Board should amend itself to give equally higher marks as do CBSE Schools and GOI should see all boards mark at equal grade for the same pattern of question.
I know an honours in medicine(75 per cent marks do fetch an honours in medical subjects ) is as difficult as to get a first class in English in BA/MA. Because the examiners themselves had not got that mark will not award to any student.
I said once at Kolkata, only examiner of Dr.Rajendra Prasad was honest that he found ‘examinee better than examiner,’ while in fact every class has at least one student better than the teacher lest the students become doctor, engineer and teacher retiring at the same school.

I am surprised why so much importance to IIT itself. . Raman, Khorana,Venkatraman were not products of IIT. Any IIT/AIIMS is not out of India. Indian taxpayers have been bled to shape t you and you should be conscious of that responsibility. It is not a station to go abroad for some petty gains.

Brilliant students do not opt for research but became manager. Many IITians find such fabulous job in the market more on their other talents than the talent based on PCM/ engineering skills. Several go to IAS- this years’ topper is an IIT,Roorki girl.
The mad rat race to materialism will hamper the growth of science.

Any student once admitted to any institute may not maintain the same rank and as said Fs can become better. Who can be better F than Einstein himself?
Students should evolve self help group to reduce rate of suicide and institutions should make committees to help stressed students Teachers too need counselled for not making students stressed.
If any such self help group is formed anywhere I will be happy to share my experience.

Floods in south India and in Mithila

Floods in south India and in Mithila

Yesterday night(4th October 2009) I had a long telephonic talk with Dinesh K. Mishra on the matter of floods in south India for which he did not spoke much for want to data.

However Mithila ravaged perineally with floods has peers-Gujarat almost every year and northern Karnataka and eastern AP which are not due to ice melting glaciers of Himalyas but due to maybe de-silting and deforestation.

Another point is sure that now inter linking of river Ganga cauvery is hardly of any relevance. Post-Vajpayee in Rahul-proxy era when rahul had said no to it ,it has hardly any taker.

Yet I feel someone should come up with a comprehensive flood studies of country.

Dineshji mentined one name(I forgot) who has compiles such data of 100 years.

Dr.R.K.Misra, ex-director, BAU,Kanke mentined me some Chaudhari’s work on inter linking o frivers.

Initially I was enthusiastic to that but reading an article in the journal of ciast accountants, I felt it was taxing to north and my letter to that notion had appeared in The Hindu while I was in Bangalore.

Some months back ex-President APJ Kalam was at Ranchi and had asked same question as he was an advocate of linking of rivers but he too replied in non-committal way as to what wuld happen for lakhs of tribals when the routes of rivers will be changed.

My concern with floods in Mithila is that with four way lane coming up and broad guage with no adequate drainage, these will make floods worse.

A villager of Sijhuliya Dhairyanarayan Jha said that though high bridges were made at hs village no one bothered to ask local persons who could have said that there area was near flooded in the memory of 100 years and high bridge there was unnecessary.

Maybe engineers have missed some other points where it would have been necessary and if they supposed to provide drainage on fixed imaginary distances will it result in flood waters to take some course ruining many villages.

Dineshji is an expert to it and it is always delightful to talk to him though I know my limitation of knowledge on such issues being a doctor.

Dineshji was leaving to Guwahati with a group of some young persons from Koshi-Kamla flood belt to study the life style of the people of that area how they could live with floods.

I feel strongly Maithils should learn to live with floods than making embankments which are destined to be broken a day or other.

Inter-linking may be done of some selected portion but ambitious Ganaga cauvery may be dismissed.

Vachaspatis Murtis

Vachaspatis Murtis

Today on 5th Ocober 2009 I had long very long conversation with Bauji(Kashinath Jha) whom villagers had appointed member the Vachaspati Statue Committee of the AMP. In fact when had phoned I was doing daily tarpan which I am doing since some days as being advised by Prof. Udayshankar while we were at Dalsingsarai some months back.

I phoned Kashiji and took the numbers of the owners of the land which was once upon a time was the seat of Vachaspati in 9th century.

I had one of the longest phone talk9around 51 minutes) with Chandradhar Jha, retd. Prof. Maithili, Patna University, his nephew but elder in age Kameshwar Jha, retired engineer in-chief and brother of Dr. Gyaneshwar Jha, senior me in DMCH.

All were willing that the place be developed and they will happily donate the land.

Kashiji also made me talk to Mahesh Jha son of late Pt. sahdev Jha whose life time work was to establish the fact enunciated by Madhusudan Saraswati that Mithila’s advait was Bhavadwait which does not require Kavalya or renunciation as propagated by Shankaracharya. He was also of the opinion that Shankara did not visit Mandan and so called shastrartha between them was not held.

A book on Sahdev Jha is to be published and as I had promised Indra Narayan Jha of Sarara, who worked in CCL and is settled at Lalit Colony,Ranchi that I will contribute an article on Pt. Jha’s work which I had already quoted while delivering a lecture on philosophers of Mithila in honour of Dr.Adyacharan Jha on Dec.12,2008 at Patna Book Fair. When Mahesh Jha reminded me I promised him to give two articles by 25th October 2009(on Bhavadwait:The Vedanta of Maithils and Shankara’s Visit to Mandan Misra- where my view will be to see Shankara’s visit as visit of one great scholar to other great scholar who agreed to salvage Sanatan Dharma by Buddhist onslaught. ) when we will meet at the residence of Mithileshwar Jha for Vachaspati Murti in Thadhi as well as Samaul my village near Pandaul where Vachaspati II, the great Karmkandi and author of 41 books was born.

What a similarity- at Thadhi also Misrain and Bhamati pond(called Punarna) and at Samaul again Misrain and Chhotki ponds. Seems Bhamati was also second wife of Vachapati I that he loved her more and named the famous book on her.

It was the idea of Dr. Sureshwar Jha that statues be built for both and I wish in a single stroke fund will be generated for both(least people will get bored one after other Vachaspati) and I hope HH Shankaracharya to inaugurate both on a single day forenoon at Thadhi and afternoon at Samaul.

Now that Thadi’s landowners have assured me al help, Samaul’s land is with our family itself and my mother had purchased 5 kathhas of land from one of my cousin nearby which we will donate to Vachaspati II’s deeh development.

Gradually I feel such development of important place be done through Mithila Seva manch, an agency of Antarrashtriya Maithili Parishad which will have ledger page for each such work and the passbook will be shown to villagers’ representative concerned that the donation given by that particular village had been remitted to that specific project.

AMP hopes at least one day salary be sent to the account(number will be sent to the aspirants) and soon many such social work will appear in Mithila.

Bundelkhand’s Water crisis

Bundelkhand’s Water crisis

Though I am opposed to the ambitious Ganga-Kavery linking with interlinking of piennisular rivers, I feel Yamuna-Chambal interlinking may help parched Budelkhand which is making life there difficult.

When I discussed this with flood and water expert Dinesh K. Mishra he said that it may be a possibility though he has not studied much beyond Koshi and other rivers of Mithila.

Rahul’s espousing of Bundelkhand might have irked UP and MP CMs, problem of Bundelkhand is a reality.

I have been associated closely with Bundelkhand as two of my brothers were in that reason and also Chaumas , apublication by MP Govt. on Bundeli culture I am receiving regularly.

I wish some remeady to Budeli miseries do come in view, including statehood tot hat to press the problems on proper for a.

Vachaspati’s Thadhi

Vachaspati’s Thadhi

I had asked boys in the Nanaur High School to make portrait of Vachaspati, the greatest scholar India had produced

On 1st September morning we were ready and took bus to Thadhi, 7 km from Nanaur. We went to Kamladitya(Kamladan) said to be once capital of Mithila. People guided our 3 km walk. There was a new temple on old earthen mond of much height. The old Pujari Bhola Rai said that temple dated 116 Shak samvat..some 200o years back. There was a plaque in which Mithilkshar were engraved some king’s dynasty but the fool villagers slapped cement on that. The idol of Kamla,Laxmi was there. Other was broken. I felt sorry again that I did not carry a camera or mobile with camera!). Also of Ganga, Kuber’s idols were there.

The idols are probably of Bddistic perod made of Chunar slabs.

Rai said that a full skelton (of magardwaj sain of Nath sect) was found there intact of amny century’s antiquity.

The new temple was made with contributions from Mumbai 25,000 whie villagers of Andhra had given 21000 of total 111138 Rs.

Bhola Roy is a Bhumihar whose forefathers came 9 generations back from Muzaffarpur and they had some 6 acre lands in their name(while temple had only 2 kathha 9 dhurs)!

Chiti Durga is celebrated there.

I had told Kamlkantjee that it was a cursed place so people do not visit there much and he agreed to me after the skeleton stiry which might be a murder any time. The capital of Mithila was s furlong off which was inhabitated by people now. Excavation may tell whether the claim of Sahdev Jha was right for it as capital or Simraon garh in Champaran was capital in deed. But surely the area has a landscape of capital- roads all where and over 70 ponds.

Then we asked a tea shop our desire to visit Vachaspati’s dwelling?Deeh. He told me t was in returning way near a pond , where is a tree of Dhatrim..

We went there- it was a dilapidated deeh. Someone also had trying to cultivate some crop (kudari san tami kay) but othr portions were intact. There came Prem Kumnar Jha to guide us. He was a ward member also and a social worker. I appointed him as secrtary of AMP.Thadhi and gave a task to work for a statue of Vachaspati which was hinted to me by Prof.Sureshwar Jha sometimes back. I told him that Vachaspati I and II(in my village Samaul, statue projects will be taken up simultaneously and in a proper formate I will as for donation all over the world wth my initial contribution for Rs.5,000 for each, It was a matter of shame that some other scholar’s statue was there in the village but n9ot of Vachaspati desite HH Puri Shankarachrya’s visit some years back and promise for the same.

There is still ponda named on Misrain and Bhamati(in my village to Misrain and chhotaki pokharis are but no body ever tried in my village to have any crop in that deeh of Vachaspati II of 15 century- in my childhood I had seen the place where we used to go.

But while my villagers(my family which owns the land from many generations) did never think to have any crop it was place of defecation which is still a revered place in Thadhi where they observe Navah aftr saraswati Puja. I congratulated them and took pieces of soils from different portions of Vachaspati deeh.

Then we went to Sahdev Jha’s house who had expired recently at the age of 92. Sahdev Jha was of the opinion that Shankaracharya never visited Mithila and Mithil’s advait is a distinct one, which does not ask for Sannyas. Madhusudan saraswati had named that ‘Bhavadwait,” of Grihasthas. Sahedev Jha was agreat compiler and Vachaspati Museum is thre which could not visit die to paucity of time.

In the way I saw house of Amrendra Narayan Jha of Bangalore where too I coud not go due to lack of time but thought in mind though he had left AMP will make him convenor for the Vachaspati I statue project of AMP. I know once I go to Bangalore he cannot say no.

In the way I saw the place of Dr.Jagannath Mishra’s sister which was promised by him to give for Kanya Vidyalaya but was given to his son Neetish, MLA. I said that probably thus Rajnagar became a reserved constituency! Aftetr all the property beloged to kith of Dr.saheb’s sister not of her Naihar and Dr. Saheb is such a wealthy man that he hardly need anything!

Sahdev Jha’s son narrated the story of a dakini who used to come in while dress in midnight to Parmeshwari Sthan. Many saw her but could not catch even her dress or could lesson the distance in between even being very fast.

In the way to Parmeshwari Sthan, we saw statue of Kaveeshwar Chanda Jha(Shake 1753 Magh shukla 7 i.e. 20.1.1831-1909) which was in his sasur.

Finally we visited parmeshwari sthan which was a very big campus with amny temples and pond.

Then we had a bus to Nanaur. I proceeded to Jhanjharpur from same bus taking my bags from the school on road. At Jhanjharpur a Darbhanga boiund bus was came so close that jumping the stalled water my soe was in mud. Really it was a protective that time. I missed bus in pulling out my shoe and washing that and sock and then by next bus I came to Darbhanga and took my bus to Ranchi informing Dr.Sureshwar Jha AMP’s plans for Vachaspti’s deeh. He was very happy . Let me see if it can succeed!
