Giridih_Vidyapati Parva 23.11.2011

Giridih_Vidyapati Parva 23.11.2011

It was a three days holidays for me 22nd April(Good Friday), 23rd(4th Saturday) and Sunday the 24th April, 2011 which I had long planned to be at my home Forbesganj coupled with core committee meeting of the AMP which was cancelled because of the organizer Sudhirnath Mishra’s son being critical at the AIIMS. When sometimes back Prabhunarayan Jha my classmate of MBBS had informed me of the Vidyapati parva at Giridih on 23rd I had expressed my inability.

On the cancellation of the meeting I confirmed a professor for a meeting Darbhanga on 22nd but when the engineer from Karnataka said he was to retire on April 30th and he opted for completing the work in these holidays., I requested Dr. Kamalkant Jha to take that meeting at Darbhanga.

Incidentally on 21st that kannada engineer visited the library I was working and agreed to have sitting in the first half on 23rd and evening of 24th November, enabling me to go Giridiha and back after the Vidyapati Parva.- Giridih is some 5 hours bus journey from Ranchi.

In the night of 23rd I tried to contact my friend Dr. PN Jha but could not get him on mobile or landline. I asked Shiv Kumar Thakur of Maithili books who had first informed me on 26th March about the Giridih Parva and he could give me the number of the secretary Ramlala next day and thus on November 22nd it was confirmed though they were a bit sorry that my name on card could not be be printed to which I said that I was not aspiring that and be their chief guest whoever may be, I just wanted some minutes.

Dr. Ranjan phoned me getting news from someone and so Parmwahwar Jha when I could contact him taking his number from Bindeshwar Jha, his brother in law and requested me to have a stay at his house.

In the morning of 23rd he cautioned me of the Maoist bund. Anyway after my translation schedule I reached bus stand and there was no bus. I talked Ramlalaji and went railway station to take a train for Madhupur and then a passenger from there of 920 pm.

It was a 340 km journey and when there was a 30 minute delay at Dhanbad, there was a chance that if some delay of train, I may miss the last passenger to Giridih. The passengers were telling that the train started behaving like a passenger train halting at each station. but I could reach and took the train. It was a cosy 38 km jorney after one hour. A young Rajneesh barnwal working in Bank of baroda near Burdwan informed me about Giridih where is an institute at the birthplace of Jagdeeh Cjandra basu..

At station came Dr. Ranjan and also A duttaji in whose hone at Fent kamalapur, nearly Basopatti on 23 Oct. 1993 I had stayed as an unknown padyatree.

The guest MP Ravindra Pandey was leaving the venue whom I thanked for raising question in parliament for Ranchi jaynagar train and requested for raising issue of Maithili’s second language status in Jharkhand. The MLA Shahabadiji was also leaving the venue and I could again request him(he had already raised the issue from the dais as is reported today in Ranchi Express also.

Maithili anchor Ramsevak Thakur announced my coming and after nand’s melodious Vidaypati geet, for some minutes the a brief interruption was taken for my welcome and speech- I contained that in the briefst possible with the distinction of Mithila and Maithili and our demand for second language status from the inheritors of Vajpayee least Maithils may be called to boycott in next election.

I was in the ground till 3 when a mix of Hindi some undervalued song came up when I sent a slip to Ramsevak Thakur that he could himself continue whole night as he was a master of ceremony and well could do that.

Before that the presentation in dance and songs were good. The food was served to all in plates while enjoying the song. I had attended Vidyapati parva there on 30.4.2005 also and certainly the audience and over all presentation was better this time and I wish a good future for Maithili Vikas manch, Giridih. When somebosy asked me for starting AMP there I replied I do not open AMP anywhere as second Maithili organization- it will be first or at least third…(to coordinate among rivals as for AMP every Maithili organization is its unit.).

I took leave from the organizers and with the Madhupur-jamtara workers(whom I had known only a fortnight before) reached Madhupur and instead of rest preffered an early morning bath and puja at Shym’s residence who was from Madukia village and his wife from Tyotha to which I was also related and then we came to station where from Benipatti, a young and dynamic Ghnshyam Mishra was introduced to me who had been the main worker for making a temple nearby.

He did not take money for my ticket despite my request.

I could get an upper space to sleep and reached Ranchi a 302 km journey and resumed translation work as per schedule amidst bouts of sleep I was interrupted by the Kannada engineer.

Vachaspati Deeh- Vachaspati Mahotsava suggested there on Achala Ekadashi(May 28,2011)

Vachaspati Deeh- Vachaspati Mahotsava suggested there on Achala Ekadashi(May 28,2011)
My mobile has no space to save new number and I was trying to remove some infrequently called number an din the process one Maheshji from Ghnashyampur working at Kolkata did not recall me nor I. As only 14 characters were allowed I had saved that number as Knl Maheshji and I did not recall as to what Knl stands for.
Then other Mahesh was from Thadhi clearly recorded and when I called him he had a lot of information for me. Firstly he was ill and he had some queries for food. I explained him that Roti should be taken not ‘sohari’, we have emulated Marwadis. Roti of Marua or Makai is healthier preventing constipation, the root of many diseases. And, likewise one can have katahar’s tarkari(jackfruit) to avoid constipation.
He informed me that my article on Vachaspati Mishra is under third proof stage where I have tried to put Mandan-Vachaspati’s Bhavadwait as named by pt. Madhusudan Saraswati (whose one extra shloka at the beginning of Chapter XIII of Bgawadgita is accepted by the Chinmay Mission. Pt. sarsawati has divided Gita inthree Shatakas( three parts of six chapters- first i.e. Chapter 1-6 is Karmshatak, second i.e. 7-12 is Bhaktishatak and third i.e. 13-18 id Jnanshatak and from chapter XII to XIII Lord has jumped without a sangati(correlation) with the previous chapter,

That great Madhusudan Saraswati has called Mithil’s Adwait, Bhavadwait based on the Shukla Yajurveda (and its Upnishads Ishavasy Upanishad and Brihadaranyak Upanishad , the sammest and the biggest among Upanishads) and Samveda(and its Upanishad Chhandogya) , Maithils have been negating Sannyas which was called a must for kaivalya or Moksha by Adi shankaracharya and others rather Maithils dwell to the Pravirtimarg of jankadayah ( usually Adi or etc. is not used after one person and in fact there had been 54 Jankas in Mithila, amongst them Mata Seeta’s father was 24th called Seerdhwaj Janak and was followed as 25th Janak by his younger brother,Kushdwaj whose kingdome spread from Koshi belt to Jagannathpuri in south where Mausibari is called Janakpuri and in fact Maithils have settled in the route Babadham Deoghar to jagannathpuri via Bahragoda where not many years back a lady Maithil was elected MLA of CPI (and so Mithila’s demand upto Deoghar as per Grierson’s Linguistic Surve’s map of 1902 down south in not in contradistinction of Mahakavi Chanda Jha’s ‘ Ganga Bahathi jink dakshin dis,; based on the famous quote of the Vishnupuran..’Kaushiki tu samarambhy..).

Maheshji also informed me that my batch mate of MBBS, Amarnath Jha of Hirni village is posted at Thadhi. I have been quoting him in the context of his intelligent father-in-law who as an invigilator in the SSC Examination of 1971, could judge Amarnath glancing his answer book that he was an intelligent student and asked his gotra and met his father and solemnized his marriage before the matric board results came out in which he had a superb marks and on the basis of which he was admitted in the prestigious Science College of Patna and competed in the PMT in first attempt I had competed in the same batch but in second attempt (though I too had good marks and was selected for the Science College and was 19th in the then undivided Bihar, missed to top as I had till then managed physics without mechanics portion but then there was no choice, yet I topped among PMT students of the Ranchi University, even being a student from the Ranchi College made a record for it was reserved for any Xavierian till then and I had not even filled up the form of Xavier’s College on the pretext, under the influence of RSS ideals,” I will not study in a missionary college). I do not prefix Xavier with St. because a reading of the Illustrated Weekly in 1970s, I found a verse on his name which said that Xavier used to be pleased at Goa (where his dead body is still preserved in the famous BOM Jesus Church) when he used to see the newly converted Christian used to break idols of Hindu gods which they were worshipping till previous day.
Here I do not want to divert that Goans are descendents of Maithils among whom Lata Mangeshkar is one whose family name is derived from the deity Mangrish having some connection with Munger of Mithila as was published in one of the magazines of US.

Anyway Amarnath was admitted to the Darbhanga Medical College as the only father among my close friends still, may be the only parent amongst 150 students(with 30 girls) and he remained a good student secured an honours(more than 75 % marks) in pathology and the last I saw him maybe 7-8 years back when I was walking to Ranchi station from the over bridge and he was coming from the station with his daughter for her pre medical test(and that girl must have competed and completed the MBBS) who had come in the laps of her mother in the Old Hostel of the DMCH in summer break of 1974; the only child of any of our batch mate and we used to fondle her!

I asked Maheshji to procure the contact number of the other girl Priyanka of Nanaur School whom I saw on 30.8.2009 during an interactve session with school students. I I had written a blog on her long back, Rural girl Priyanka wants to be an IAS’ though she wished to read biology. Later seeing my name in newspapers connection with Mithila movement she had phoned me but I lost her number somehow. I could know much later that she was of Bhatsimari village and her father died at a tender age and I wish she come to my residence at Ranchi and pursue course ISc in a nearby college. There is scarcity of water at Ranchi and hence, I am not pressing for merit examination of ISc students but maybe from next session it is done.

During that visit of Nanaur, I had gone Thadhi first time and after visiting Vachaspati’s deeh , I had met some persons in the village in connection with developing the place. Again after a month I had been to Thadhi in 2009 and had formed a skeletal committee and had talked the present owners of the deeh who had assured to donate.
When I asked Mahesh to fix up my meeting next month(on 28th may) with villagers where I would appeal for villager’s cooperation of one day salary of pravasis (and one day labor of villagers must be taken) which may be sent to Mithila Seva manch’s account no. 491010110001633 at the bank of India, Shyamali branch, Ranchi which will be transferred them for statue etc.
Mahesh said that after my initiation some young persons have made a committee and have sent Vachaspati’s imaginary sketch to Jaipur for a bust.
I was happy to note that much progress was done without my information and I wised that on 28th may there should be a Vachaspati mahotsav- recitation of Bhamati and also Vishnushasranaam (incidentally that is the day of Achala Ekadashi, and in fact on this every year it may be held).
Though Mahesh had desires that I approach for this any minister or so, I said the self help was better at least initially and when some tangiable work would be Govt. too would come to help. In this connection he mentioned the name of a senior officer at Madhubani who was very helpful. Vidyapati parvas spend crores of rupees and should not they divert some money for such work of importance.

And then the other part of my wish would remain a memorial for Vachaspati II of my ancestral village(Samaul, 7 km south east of Madhubani) where though land is under my family’s possession, no initiation had been done from villagers as they thought again that I would be sending money for work. I am ready to donate 5 kathas adjacent land, purchased by my mother in 1970s from one of my cousins and may donate also some money but again it should be operative as I suggested for Thadhi.

My first meetings at Dumka on 9.4.2011, and regular visit to Godda and Deoghar on 10.4.2011)

My first meetings at Dumka on 9.4.2011, and regular visit to Godda and Deoghar on 10.4.2011)

When I reached Dumka first I searched out the letter box and the HPO was near bus stand and I unloaded myself.
When I was coming back to stand I was surprised to see some santhal girls bowing to touch soil in reverence to someone some years senior to them..
Daninath Hotel was there of Dilip Thakur whose son took me to Gourkant Jha about whom BK Mishra had referred to when on March 26-27th 2011 I cancelled my trip to Santhal Pargana , at Dunka nobody was free for Pranav Mukherjee’s meeting though DR. B.K. Mishra who was very enthusiastic could not be present again on April 9th for ekoddisht (annual shraddha of one of his parents at Saharsa) ,he had told me that everything would be organized by Gourkant Jha there and hence I had clubbed Dumka in the list and in fact it was a well organized meeting though could not get press cover because it was a bit late and reporters were probably not informed.
Gourkant Jha is an innate lover of Vidyapati, running his Music Academy he had been presenting before AMbedkar Jayanati, Kaji Nazrul Islam Jayanti ut had a pang for Vidaypati Jayanti and when he decided for that he could get a portrait only with the help of Asanand Jha, ADM who procured it from Ranchi. Now he has regular supply of calendars from Jharkhand Maithili Manch though he as of the view that at least one folio of that must be of Mahakavi Vidyapati every year. I briefed him that how I could start that organization in 1997, consistently since 18.12.1994, when I took the first meeting with Harmu Maithils when I was invited by Subodh Ckoudhary to come there and then on 9.5.1995, Janki Jayanti in Jaykant Mishra’s presence and then during 21-22 Dec. 1996,Vidyapati parva when it was held there after 1989 probaby and on 21.12.197 at the same Panchmadir could collect names for an organization and put in an envelop (next week Maithil manch, Harmu was selected by them and later I suggested Subodhbabu to add Jharkhand when jHarkhand Maithil mahasangh, Sindri failed but since 2003, AMP is working as the coordinating organization because it is humanly not possible by any local orgnisation to work statewide for which AMP is the only platform).

Gradually Maihtils assembled-Maheshlalda, Simari, Madan K Jah-Tektari, Chandrakant JhaMahisam, Dunesh Pandey,BUxar, Basant Jha, Baijani, Shani K Jha, Haripur, Rajesh Mishra, Baluar, Prof. Pradeep Jha, Bhramarpur, Yogendra Jha, Bhawanipur etc..and it was resolved that on 16th April they would ressemble and soon there would be a big state meeting.
Dumka is a a promising ground for Maithili work,
I was taken to Ajaynath Jha, Jan Samark Padadhikari I/C of Soochna Bhawan who though was very busy gave advices of importance- to have unit of a bigger rganisatin, to include all shades of people, maithilibhashi and premis etc. , He hails from Tirhutia village of Bettiah and is from the lineage of great Chumbe Jha of Pilkhwad..
I wondered when sitting nearby Savan Gudia , BSc(Ag) from PUsa Agriculture College and District Agriculture Officer, talked with me in Maithili and said that he saw gandhi’s facie in me..(such was referred by Dr.A.K.Shrivastava, my ex-CMO as well as A.K.Singh, IAS of UP cadre also).
Though I been claiming that I am the most widely traveled person in the country(at least from my own expenses and or being in the service ,traveling usually on holidays and now even if you go to villages people are busy otherwise on working days), even more than Gandhi, what I did can be done by anyone. It does not require much cost as well.
Ajaynath Jha said that Gandhi could know the psyche of Indians when after returning from Africa, he had been advised to travel the country by Gopal Krishna Gokhle.
We talked on some related topic and then I wet to my froend rof. Rajendra Pandey’s house who was a my batchmate ( of Botany Honours) at the Ranchi College before I left for the Darbhanga Medical College,(topping amongst Ranchi University students).
There was a professor talking on phone- he was prof. Gangan Thakur from Satlakha. Soon came my cosine sister’s daughter’s don santosh of Pilkhwad with other eniginer and there was also a RSS worker from Hugly(WB), Dutta and motly I talked on ethos of Hinduism, its scientific base etc. Rajendra pandey was taken to a RSS shakha for Shardpurnima’s kir in 1970 probably and today he Jila sanghchalak for many years there.
I went to Santosh’s ouse and had heavy dinner(forgot to tell on onion in Navratra? (Though vegeatrain I was that I had told).

In the morning, after my Chandipath, he left me in a Godda bus where I reached Shivpuri directly to Vidayapti Parisar where soon big meetings will be held (around 1000 capacity) and then came with Sarvjeet Jha, advocate to have my second meeting there with local Maihtils. Many were ld faces and some new. Presided by Gangadhar Jha, arelative of Rameshwar Thakur, Hon’ble Governor and Kairavji, a doyen of Maithils.
I photographed there Ratneshwar and Dhaneshwar Shivlings ( swatayambhu shivlings) there –incidentally my Rashinae is Dhaneshar!

Sarvjeetji left me in a Deoghar bound bus and I was reveived by my nekher Krihnakar there and we reached for meeting Bampas Town where’ Music soree’ was by Gaurjee.’ And Parmeshwar Jha was also present and soon came Dr. Vijayashankar whose lierary gift could be known when he recited his poetries though for me he has been an unknown journey friend of Vanchal express of 26.1.2010 who turned out to be torch bearer of Maithii movement in his area. There was no preparation for my meeting-information to Maihtils and press which I said to have from the next time and have at least 100 members before a conference there planned on July 3,2011.
Devendra Jha, a senior engineer was announced as president of AMP, Sevghar who has an artistic flavour and a writer’s acumen(which I read turning some pages of the Swantah sukhayah, Hindi compendium though he claimed tat he was not a writer,
My train at Jasidih was late yet I reached in time Ranchi..

My first meeting at Jamtata on 9.4.2011

My first meeting at Jamtata on 9.4.2011

When I reached Jamtara in the early morning and was posting the Aayurvigyan Pragati in the small letter box, I saw an old person having red remnants of tika of the previous day and I asked whether he was Mahendra Choudhary (guessing he had come to receive me though his son had told me to call once I reached Jamtara) and he replied affirmatively and I was pleased that he had come to receive me. His number was given by Dr. B. K. Mishra and when I had called every time Mahendrababu’s son, a journalist had talked and had said that because his duty was from 2 pm he wished my time in forenoon and it also suited me as from there I could go to Dumka some 80 km by bus.
I asked Choudhary’s to take some flowers for my Puja from nearby and Malti as well as Dhatura’s flowers I quickly picked up.
His residence was hardly 5 minutes walk and there he asked my full introduction and purpose of the visit and he said that as every concern Maithil would be busy in examinations it would be proper to visit some retired and we went straightway to the house of C N Jha who was from Bhramarpur and there we met a Maithil working in Bank who was from Saharsa’s village. I had been to both villages and quickly proposed them for a unit of AMP at Jamtara which was a district of recent past(and hence not given due importance in George Grierson’s linguistic map).
The surrounding has a smell of nearby Bengal but it seemed to me a watershed zone for southern Maithili and Bangla, though I could not meet any native Maithil of that place. There were many Maithils in connection with service and they kept contact with Asansol and Giridih’s Maithili function though could not organize any for themselves at Jamtara.
My camera though could click a photo ,it had not power even to close the shutters before lens and hence we returned to the house of Mahendrababu immediately.
There he called a young man from Mauahi and he was designated as Gen.Secretary of AMP, Jamtara. His father was a grand scholar who died prematurely and hence he had to take up an assistant’s job in compensation to run the family. I had visited his village in October 1994 during my cycle Yatra.
He was also busy with examinations and he called us in the nearby college to talk to a teacher Ranjit Jha.
I took my bath; recited full Durgapath hurriedly after sandhya-tarpan-panchdevtapuja- I daily do, amid interrupted calls from Mumbai where my nephew was admitted with low WBC count and had IIT examination next day; the connectivity was poor and I listened my brother telling someone about me that I was wandering from Jamtara to Dumka, etc. The other call from Kolkata for a medical conference at Kalyani which was scheduled for the date 9-10th April but had to be cancelled for ill-preparation and the organized was asking me to visit the place where already I had been, the historic place named after Dr. Bidhan Chadra Raoy’s fiancĂ©e whom he could not marry and remained bachelor life long, for Maithils historic as there in 1954 in the Indian National Congress’s session Mithila state was demanded and 150+ Maihtils were taken in preventive custody at Asansol itself, my uncle was one of them; 4 still alive.

After food, it was revealed to me that the journalist son had not informed his journalist-cum-librarian father about my coming and Mahedrababu was on his regular walk that I had spotted him. He had not gone to receive me but what better would have been from such a Maithili lover to bestow his blessings and time for the work he liked. I saw a Mahakavi Vidyapati’s portrait in his house and he told me that he ould be attending Giridih’s Vidyapati parva on 23rd April 2011 and he had in past attended to Asansol’s such function also when eminent Mayanad Mishra had been guest here. I informed him that only some days back I had been to Asansol also and now a unit of AMP was there.
We reached the college and despite examination, some teachers(incidentally one state president of ABVP and the other town president, which revealed when I asked about the Prashikhan Varg’s notice on walls) listened to me and I informed them about the subject- of Mathematics- Leelawati’s sum in lyrics( of height and distance, in a pond on the side a monkey drinking water from the lotus raft(kamal nal) and with the degrees of shadow Leelawati was asked the height at which the monkey was).. and of pther of zoology, of which I was an honours student for few days before I shifted to botany fearing the drawings of animals I was poor in that) and many thing that some Maithil teachers came and soon a meeting with press, a clipping is in attachment. The press covered well of all (Hindustan, Ranchi express, Dainik Jagaran, prabhat Kahabar as reported) but one is here from net.(The other photos I may post afterwards.

Soon we returned and took my bag (still heavy because in small letter box only few journals could be posted) . I crossed the platform and took a rickshaw; a bus was waiting for me to start for Dumka where too my first meeting was the same day.

Dhanbad_ seminar on Corruption, Media and Student agitation under the shadow of cricket hype , Anna’s fast

Dhanbad_ seminar on Corruption, Media and Student agitation under the shadow of cricket hype , Anna’s fast
When I started for Dhanbad on Saturday it was a cricket hype in all over India and probably I was only equivocal person in the country and was watching the scenes without any interest though not for long Dhoni resided in my colony, Shyamali, MECON.
In the evening I saw two bikes with two girls on each one driving and other painted her cheek with Tricolour and having a Tricolour in her hands in front of the DPS School where I was going on my duty(and they were followed by three teenagers on bike).
The next day(April 3,2011) at the SSLNT College I was speaking in a seminar by the ABVP (I had not beena speaker in any ABVP meeting after 1982, so a nostalgic feel on getting invitation by Mithilesh Jha and Pramod Jha ) on ‘ corruption, media and students agitation ,’ and had a bare mention that victory over a country in population even smaller to any medium sized state of ours (like Jharkhand ( around 30 million) has hardly any significance which turned like that of any war like situation.
And there was mention of Poonam Pandey about which I learnt afterwards. In fact the race to cricket and money will allure many Poonams for fast and cheap popularity.

I spoke on the genesis of corruption which cannot be weeded out without spiritual touch. Anna Hazare is on fast and many are following him but how many souls have satisfaction with minimum life needs.
The cricket players have been awarded million and million but not from anyone’s pocket but from state exchequer and or business groups which will again promote its things through them.
How many scientists are awarded who saves million lives?
The talk of Bharat ratna for Sachin and why not for Dhyanchand or Vishwanathan or Karnam or Jaspal or Bindra?

There is a great nexus of money, publicity and media though I defended media in that seminar that they had their own compulsions too which later Santosh Bhartiya , editor of of Dainik Jagaran , Dhanbad appreciated and shared many stories of brave journalism and many times at the cost of cutting advertisement by Govt.
I warned that war with corruption should not replicate 1974’s where I was a party as a young student. We saw many student leaders of that time as great hero of scams in bihar and so in Assam.
1974 may not be replicated and any movement will be as per modules of present and for that students need serious study and also participation in agitation and also regionally segmented movements may take the national form ultimately. I am persuing work on that line and am not very serious to get result in a day and having appreciation for Anna have not so for many publicity mongers around him (and press is responsible for that both good and bad)
A DGP of Mizoram fled away from her duty after got a seat for her daughter in qupta of that tiny state and she is a well known public face- that is also a corruption. and so many others who are seen every day on TV though saints need solace!
Let the success come in such intricate fields by change of minds as the offenders will find way from any rule you make!
