Few midnight hours in Hindustan

25-26th january 2009

Few midnight hours in Hindustan

Well! I am not a NRI or a non-Hindustani to describe you the moment of a midnight change over flight in any part of Hindustan but am describing you the scene of a premiere daily I could see on the insistence of a young editorial staff, , of Hindustan, at Bhagalpur on the midnight of 25th-26th January and I saw the newspaper with my statement few hours earlier than any morning I could have seen.
The press prints around 2 lakh copies per night( than day I will like to say)..and that too in few hours. The speed is 10 copy per second and press can’t use maximum speed as paper quality is needed better than it is using for that.
Even with this it cost Rs.16(and is charged Rs.4 with a reader due to some advertisement support)- while with some premier English dailies Rs. 32 they charge Rs.2 because Hindi papers do not get MNC’s advertisement support. The support by leaders and state government gags them- hence Koshi flood victims under great chill do not make news and Vikas Yatras of Bihar Government in election time- in fact Election commission’s work should start from day 1 of oath ceremony not after promulgation of election dates.
It was a cool night and I could not resist to visit the press when was invited. The first thing medically I noticed that the workers printing papers need masks otherwise aerosole of four primary colors- syan(I knew there first time), red, green, magenta(or some other I do not remember) will gradually accumulate in the lungs of such workers.
Now the press is mechanized and modernized day by day and I professed after 50 years it may not be needed as on line individual subscription and alerts may be more familiar with the higher computer density.
Talking with editorial staff was good- it was a very busy hour and some of them knew me for different causes- from residence to Maithili movement to be a doctor and so..
I talked with them on three or four issues in low voice not to disturb many but surely three or four ears were there concentrated to me-
Newspapers should prioritize mews as per national/reginal importance, even a line of Delhi Dharna read in Hindustan helped our village workers in interior Mithila, I thanked the paper.
In fact the response to small incident in aany corner of state or nation is not in vopgue these days and that is one lacuna of the regionwise printing(even my news could not go for Saharsa as it was peinted earlier that evening but Santhal Paragan and Purnea apart from Bhagalpur coud get news of different dimension despite 26th jan. greetings and I thanked Hindustan for propagating XIX Interanational Maithili conference at Bhaga;pur March 22-23,2008.
Then I came to Hindi words- SUBA for Prant /Rajya is one to which I objected and so many Urdu and English words. I suggested to accept Ramka instead pf Ram Ka to save space if that was priority..and in Maithili it is so like that of Sanskrit.

I did not talk for job/ wages of journalists though I feel with recession looming many are asked to go and one lady journalist had filed a case at Delhi. However, I did not find any lady and I was said that in night shift they are not given work.
I told my young friend who was’ humble and young’ that once in amid night I had visited IISc, Bangalore and had written an article’Tata Institute(as that is popularly called there) the prodigal son of Tata.- Tata had one third of his property donated to to IISc and two thirds to his daughters.
I know Hindustan had originated from Pradeep printed at Searchlight Press which was burnt in 1974 during Student agitation.
For l;ack of time at the moment I am closing it with my wishes,(from a columnist, editor of two periodicals and a lover of journalism.”Let Hindusatan keeps that glory of ‘second Independence movement.’

Mithila movement is not Maithili Movement per se

Mithila movement is not Maithili Movement per se
I feel the long discussion has been done for the Hindi states which previously had a wong assumption that Maithili is its eastern variant which has been proved conclusively that it was wrong.
Hence the analogy with Rajasthan and HP does not hold good nor with Bhojpur or Bundelkhand’s demands except that the present states of Rajasthan, HP may not like divisions on linguistic grounds but it may be thought proper to say that since the creation of Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh the stress is on economic disparity and not at all on languages.
We demand Mithila on both accounts even if it is agreed that language cannot be the only point for state formation.
True,1. creating consciousness in the masses and sustained socio-political mobilization is needed.
2. The regional elite should be integrated effectively with the all-India elite on the basis of nationalist, ideological symbols not on caste symbols and not in terms of original, linguistic and cultural symbols.
3. Symbols of national identification should be given priority over the regional symbols by the regional elitse.
4. Though has been differential social mobilization which had resulted in the absorption and assimilation of regional dialect speakers in standard Hindi it is far from in Maithili area which is not part of Hindi though Maithils can follow Hindi.
5. The regional languages lacked standardization and will be possible only after Status of state language accredition.
6. The parameters of social differentiation may be diluted with economic disparity abolition to make compatible with those of language differentiation.
The Maithili movement is not a political-cum-language movement as so far hardly few politicians of Mithila had entered into it. Had it been so the result would have been different.
In fact it should have been Mithila Movemant than Maithili movement and had been it so the drawback (of caste group etc.) would have been diluted much easily.
Yet the Mithla movement should be turned as a political-cum- econimc disparity movement than that of language movement
The Maithili movement on one hand promoted the development, standardization and modernization of Maithili wgich has ultimately included in VIII Schedule of Indian Constitution.
The protagonists of the Mithila movement base their demands on the following grounds :
1. The existing boundaries of Bihar are artificial. They
are not in accordance with either natural or linguistic boundaries.
2. Mithila has had a separate and independent regional history all along in
the past.
3. Mithila has a distinct and common historical and cultural tradition.
4.There exist separate and distinct symbols of culture and religion on which the regional consciousness is based.
5.There are common symbols of regional identity like language, social customs and practices, dress, diet, etc.
6.Maithili as the mothertongue of the region is a great unifying force. It has a long and glorious literary tradition.
7.It has a distinct folk literature tradition.
8. More importantly, there is a discriminatory allocation of political power and economic resources and benefits. The Mathilis are being deliberately exploited as a result of their being part of Bihar.
The Maithili movement has had some measure of success. –by 2001 it is 13th language of the Union.
In spite of all these successes there has been no significant gain in acceding to the demand for the creation of a Mithila State. In short, it can be said that the movement has more or less failed in achieving its ultimate and most significant objective. The reasons for such a failure are manifold. The prominent ones can be summarized below and their remedial correctives should be taken
(1) The Mithila movement might have been started mainly by certain caste groups, Brahmins and Kayasthas of the region, who comprised caste groups, Brahmins and Kayasthas of the region, who comprised the elite of the area it is wrong to say that they have not associated the Maithils of other caste groups with them. However, serious work is needed to include all.

(2) The Maithil elite gave given priority to symbols of national identity over the regional symbols but they should give equal respect to regional symbols and development too.
(3) Political movement in Bihar have failed even for the emancipation of Bihar-let groups should come over caste based parties who thrive on corruption or preferential treatment gfor development(I call’ constituency driven’ developmental efforts).
(4) It will always be difficult to organise several crores of Maithils under one umbrella but the socio-political emancipation of Maithili speakers lies in the ‘mimimum common agenda’ and that is ‘to support for Mithila state.”
(5) Maithili needs standardization and modernization and the development of non-literary forms of language and literature also be stressed.
(6) True, the community consciousness as well as regional identification has not been
strong enough in the area. But reviving Maithili script seems difficult even with the creation of Mithila state and it is not a priority at present.
(7) 'Maithili' should not be another obstacle to the development of community consciousness in the region. .The history of the Maithili movement shows that "Language is not a sufficient condition for community identification." (Brass : 80)
Thus lack of political mobilization and lack of mass support should not be responsible for the withering away of the Maithili movement.
True,”Looking at the history of various movements in the Hindi region it is evident that none of them have really been successful as they lacked mass support. They have been more an affair of the political, social or caste elites, who have not been able to purusade the masses and bring them into their fold so that the movements may become mass movements, which seems to be a necessary condition if they have to succeed.” And hence, Mithila movement needs newer dimension and new types of Maithilis organizations who can think of beyond Sanskritik Vidyapati Parvas to dharna and demonstrations to get their due otherwise floods will denude Mithiula and people will migrate and cultural greatness of Mithila will perish- Mithila state is needed for the emancipation of Mithila, Maithili and most important Maithils.

Indian पॉलिटिक्स' Geriatric age: CMs can never be better PM

Indian Politics' Geriatric age: CMs can never be better PM
Political scene in India is going to geriatric way. Shekhavat is in a fighting mood with Advani and Kalyan has opted out. BJP in Jharkhand has given tickets to its old guards.
Jharkhand has first aste of President Rule thanks advani not choosing Karia Munda at the first stance and then choosing Munda oiver Marandi – both were young.
Young should be given chance but not by favouring one or ignoring others.
Indain parties are to learn from post-Clinton, post-Blair and even post-Obama scenario in the world.
Voters are young and they want result not poetries. They are loosing charm in geriatric democracy.
Change should be logical. Not like Inida.inc’s praise for Modi who had lost his turn while he opted for CMship going back from national general secretary’s post. A person fit for CM can never be fit for PM. Many able CMs were there at the time of Jawahar Lal when became PM. It is just like IAS and state Public service commission officers.
The experiment of state CMs making PM has been failed. India needs national leaders and for this every national party should strive for evolving national workers like BJP had done for Vajapayee. And youngsters should also refrain for having taste of power and pride rather they should be proud of working for nation in any field including politics.
Modi’s case also hold good for Mayawati and Mulyam and Lalu etc. who have been state players(and many times destroyers too!)

‘Obamomania’ or ‘Obamafever’: Will oppressed Indians will like end reservations to get real honour?

Blog: ‘Obamomania’ or ‘Obamafever’:Will oppressed Indians will like end reservations to get real honour?
If I have to write today something I also should not omit Obama-fever’ though I had not thought any word like that to write or even ponder till yesterday as to when Obama was to take over though I could remember the time of Jan.20 since the day of Chhati(in November) when he had won and there was hype like that.
By this time hype should have been washed out but no Americans whom now I think have hardly much thing to do in life(otherwise some 20 million in a country of 300 million might not have assembled for ‘the oath ceremony,’ even if it was of any first ‘blak US President or semi-black, semi-American, semi-Muslim, semi-Christian and I do not know how many demis and demis may make up a full if it is a full and not making ‘fool’ to many if not all…”One can befool some for some days and many for many days but not all for all days to com.”
Yes, I am neither US-philic or US-phobic but there are many like Kiran Bedi who feel great if invited by US president on ‘tea’! Even our newspapers like TOI are full of news that seems sometime as if ‘Times of America’ but today even Hindi papers are like that of it.
Well, Americans like upper class Indians have plenty of money but are always thinking for money and the naturally ‘recession’ has made them maniac as if Obama has a ‘magic stick’ and it will be difficult for him to deliver. He is a lawyer and can speak well but oratory is only ‘one third of personality’ as said by Swami Vivekananda. The real test of personality is in stress and I do not feel at least for Indians he will be better than Bush who has one of the lowest pitched popularity..
Obama could be elevated to presidency without any reservation and whites too have voted him. Will oppressed Indians will like end reservations to get real honour?oppressed Indians will like to end reservations to get real honour?
‘NO,” will be the political answer.
Politically in a marginalized society even small per cent counts and many semis and demis have made Obama hero at a time when Bush was seen as a villaon more by the Islamic world which is under the false hope of ‘Mobarak’ in the name of Obama.
He is young and dynamic and could rose to highest post within a short span due to his fte line and let us hope he deliver fast.

Who wins or looses Mithila will win.

12.1.09
Who wins or looses Mithila will win.

Today is National Youth Day- Swami Vivekananada was born in 1863 on this date when that day was a Makar sankranti. Tithipuja by Ramkrishana Mission is held on maker sankranti we all will celebrate, Swamiji lived only 39 years but gave the world a correct picture of rising India.
He had said India will rise from the hand-of plough. I quoted in one of the press conferences(yesterday at Darbhanga in the long list of Khagaria, Katihar, Purnea, Kishanganj, Arariya, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga)..while demanding for Mithila state and asking to withdraw name of Seemanchal Express which means north-east from India which is in fact has become a Muslim Homeland. I wrote long back in 1993/1994 on this issue which was supported by Govindacharya, my senior friend and many others.

Mithila Vikas Party formation and its organization has been going on simultaneously in those days I wrote in between. Though its young president, Pramod Kr. Jha is working hard it is up to the people of Mithila to see the political ramification idolized and cleanse the Indian Polity as a marker which has given 4 of six darshans.
MVP has already announced its candsidates- ram Mohan Jha from Darbhanga and lalit Mohan Thakur from Arariya.
AMP is bound to support them as MVP is pledged to the formation of Mithila state.
This morning first I could wrote on Sibu Soren’s resignation-forst CM defeated in a bye-election which was in fact a defeat of Hindu votes and also aversion of Chhoytanagpuris to Santhalis who are nearer to Maithils and I wish Santhal Pargana comes to Mithila if it want to develop with honour!
As the time is short with me today I will not go in details rather inform you the last one month has been most important from organizational point of view for Mithila- foundation of MVP, AMP,Dehi conference and Dharna and broad advertisement of Mithila through various press conferences- hardly any intellectual Maithil is unaware today of the facts developed in this month which is a bye product of my 16 years work though it maybe hasty looking at the first glance. I could have wait but national scenario is baffling. The borders of Mithila are fast changing to Assam tunes. Beware and come forward with every type of help if you wish our progeny remain Maithils- it is not a simple task- around 8 crore Maithils are to decide their destiny.
AMP wishes Mithia’s second language as Sanskrit(first of course Maithili) and in fact yesterday I asked for it second language status on country with simple Sanskrit- no dwivachan and only 3 tenses-I have to make a small booklet for that .
I saw a news at Benipatti in Hindustan that Vidyapati parva was on the same day evenng at Madhubani and aftr a meeting of AMP at Gokulwadi which was of very intellectual persons- I went there as an unknown Maithil but the organizers of Mithuilanchal Jagaran Manch hounoured me calling on dais and asking me first to speak(I opted for 180 seconds- Madhubani’s lowest per capita income, highly fertile brain and Vidaypati’s day of Turk invasion to Bangldeshi infiltration)..Initially I was called by them as Pandit Dhanakar Thakur and later they corrected to Doctor and press clipped ‘Maithili Andolankari Dhanakar..
I reminded Hukumdev Yadav, Chaudhary of BJP, Dr.PK Jha of BSP, Dr.AN Jha of CPI that politicians have not done good for Madhubani and reminded calling the name of president MVP in the audience was a furor for them that politics of Mithila may change this time.
Who wins or loose Mithila will win.
